A Heartwarming Home-Cooked Experience Rating: 5/5 stars I had the pleasure of dining at the Sawmill Grill, and it was an exceptional experience that transported me straight to the comfort of my momma's kitchen. The food was outstanding - every bite tasted like it was made with love and care, just like home cooking. The flavors were rich, the portions were generous, and everything felt like a warm hug for my taste buds. The Sawmill Grill nailed the essence of home cooking, and I left feeling like I'd just had a meal made with love by someone who truly cares. If you're looking for a dining experience that's like sitting down at momma's table, look no further than the Sawmill Grill. Highly recommend!

We stopped here while on a road trip. I really wanted this to be good, but it just wasn’t what I expected. The waitress was great and the food came out in a timely manner. I ordered hamburger steak, fries and slaw. Mom had a veggie plate. My fries weren’t cooked enough and the coleslaw had pickles, which isn’t a preference of mine. It was fresh though. The hamburger steak was ok, but just ok. Mom’s veggies were also just ok, she also had slaw and doesn’t like pickles in it either. I’m sure this place has a great breakfast!

Great Southern hospitality and cooking in an un-assuming little diner. I ordered the Western Omelette & was highly-pleased with it. Grits that were on the side were AMAZING. If you’re coming for breakfast — the Grits are the highlight. If you’re coming for lunch — the fried okra is a must try! ***Note that prices they have on their website are VERY out of date and much of it has gone up a good amount. Also, they charge a 3% credit card fee when you checkout that is not clearly listed.

I walked into the restaurant, before I could even bask my eyes upon the sight of the establishment, myself and the two individuals I was occupied by were rushed by the presence of two waitresses. Informing us about the wait, we were asked to stand outside in the glass standaway. 10 minutes passed, and we were seated immediately,

Our waitress was a fabulous young country lady, one who had the mannerisms, tone of voice and body language of a disciplined, respectful individual. Our drinks and sides came by rather quickly, the hush puppies being the first piece of food I ate. As it entered my mouth, I was rushed with a tie-dye of seasonings and fried flavors, hitting all 9,000 tastebuds of my mouth. Delicious.

Soon, our waitress came by once more to take our orders, our trio party ordering the same Flounder combo. After taking our order, she picked up our menus and left.

25 minutes passed, and our food was brought out, all of us being quite eager to try, but still retaining our respect for the place.

I was handed my fish, side of mac and cheese and fried potatoes. At first glance, it seemed to be a cloned picture copy of a communal cafeteria. The aroma and smells hitting my nose just as quickly. Being one who preserves the main, central part of the dish for the intermediate and mid-primordial part of the meal, I ate the fried potatoes first. Upon entering my mouth, there was a significant lack of flavor, not a lack texture, but the complete absence of salt and seasoning. Upon realizing the desperate situation, I reached over for the comically and coincidentally near bottle of ketchup and showered my potatoes in the condiment, saving them. Which saved the potatoes from existential demise.

Next on my plate was a small serving of Macaroni and Cheese. A dish that is rather difficult to mess up, almost impossible. Upon diving my fork into the platter of pasta, I immediately sensed a strange smell that erupted from the cavity of nothingness. Determined to save my experience, I gave the macaroni and cheese a try.

Something my very being has since regret.

It was an all in none, and none in all. Not a nothing that animated the paradox of nonexistence, but the complete and total absence of flavor. Dialectical, the pasta lacked any sort of flavor, but retained a fragrance to it. The combination of absent flavor and brutal stench were too much for me. I fought with my respect of food that the Heavenly Father puts on this world indirectly to keep us alive, but it was too much for me.

My very self was vanishing into nothing as I tried to consume the product of which the ashed souls of millions of animals who have died trying to eat the wheat from which my pasta was made from.

At this point, my hope was shattered, and I was at least hoping the fish would bring back the spark and shine to my eyes which have now had their energy siphoned from them.

But I was wrong once more.

My fork, and the shaking hand that occupied it were under assault from the slipping breading that clinged to life on the fish. Fighting to just keep the main part of the dish together, I twirled it around, and after checking my health insurance claim rates, ate the fish.

As I chewed, the grey, mechanical flavor surged my mouth which had been previously bereaved of life by the monster that is the mac and cheese. It was like I was eating metal, not what youd imagine as an iron taste. More as in I was eating nanobots, nanotbots designed to satisfy taste, but rushed in corporate production with flaws.

With no hope left, I washed down the rest of the fish by drowning its malignant flavor behind the golden veil that is Pepsi Cola.

Upon finishing, Me and another man within my party immediately felt tired, as if we have had each and every mitochondria within our body stripped from our bodies. Knowing this, we tipped our server the well deserved 8$, and got out of there.

For 57$, I expected a food so delectable I could sum it underneath God's perfection; The Actus Purus.

Unfortunately, life is not one where you get...

I have been here 3 more times since my first review. Friends I was with wanted to go for their fried chicken livers. (I'm told they are the best around, but I don't eat liver.) I was happy to go try the place again at first, but now I ask if my friends can find another place to eat. Some of the staff here are very very rude and either my order is wrong or something is actually wrong with the food Every Time I have been here. I'm only giving it a 2 rating because some of the staff is nice and the chicken fried chicken was great the first time, otherwise it would be a 1.

......Here is my first rating that I revised after more visits....

The main thing that bothered me was that they had a special menu for the day inside the regular menu that said "Friday specials" and the first thing listed was chicken wings. The problem with this is that the wings weren't on special. Nothing to make them any different than any other day, not even the price was the same as regular price. The waitress said they just want to make sure people see them because they are overlooked. Fine, then highlight them in some other way. Make a special flavor, star it on the menu itself, have the wait staff tell people about them, or anything else, just don't say they are that days special when they aren't.

The tea had a slightly strange after taste, I don't know why, but our waitress swapped it for something else with no issues.

The strawberry cobbler was okay, but not an actual strawberry in sight. If you love strawberry glaze, you'll love this.

I'm not a big fan of the Mac-n-cheese, it was clumpy, not creamy.

I enjoyed the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes with white gravy. Nice flavor and I brought them home as leftovers.

You can buy beer from their to-go beverage and dessert cooler. I'm sure that is a plus for some.

I wouldn't classify this place as homemade food, but for quick diner food, it is a good choice. I'd give it one more chance...

My boyfriend and I went there this evening. We were greeted at the door and told to sit anywhere we wanted. We sat and were basically ignored for around 7 minutes before a young man came and took our drink orders and gave us menus. Then (while everyone around us were placing their order) we were eventually told that our server would be right with us. Meanwhile one of our drinks were flat and off color. Finally a server comes and takes our order. I tell her about the Pepsi she apologizes and says she will take care of it. We didn’t see her again for 10 minutes until she came To another table and took their order. (Still no Pepsi) She finally brings our Pepsi and asks if there was anything else. We watched as others around us that came in after us were served their meals. We had nothing. It dawned on us that she had forgotten to put our order in. Eventually she came over and said that the kitchen staff had gotten our order confused with take out orders and that no matter how annoyed we were she was equally as annoyed. She then flounced off. (Side note: we are pretty sure that was her way of covering up her mistake) Our food finally makes it to us and she asks what would make us happy. At that particular moment all we wanted to do was eat. I said we were fine for now. Once we were done eating we looked around for her for the check. She came over and laid it on the table and I asked if she had discounted Anything to which she again mumbled something about she was going to but we wanted to leave. Snatched the check and went to fix it. Our discount was a whopping $4.50 which is fine, but don’t act put out because you had to do a little extra for your customers that you forgot. The food was really good. The service and attitude were not. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re starving. Keep in mind we traveled all the way from Jacksonville just to come here to eat. Very...
