I have eaten at Kiki's Chicken and Waffles in Columbia for years. I was excited t hat we would have one in Charleston (SC). I know there has been all kinds of mixed reviews and everyone is entitled to their opinions from their experiences, but my families first experience on Saturday was absolutely amazing! Asia was amazing as the employee that made sure we had everything that we needed. She was not a waitress or server, but above and beyond and so many ways. She should train ALL employees! The wait time was fair, but the restaurant was busy, plus we had time and came in after a community service event so we were fine. The food was great! We had chicken, waffles, pork chop, French toast, shrimp and grits, fried okra, macaroni and cheese, fries...and everything was delicious. I took the time to speak to the manager (you shouldn't only seek a manager when something goes wrong) to let him know how great our service was as well as the food. Many complain that there are no soul food restaurants in Charleston, no place to go, etc....yet when entrepreneurs come here all some do is complain and instead of working to make it better make folks not want to be in business here. We are the community, yes, I demand great service also...but we have to be in this together. Thank you for such a wonderful...
Read moreI had high hopes for this spot, but unfortunately, it was a letdown from start to finish.
Upon arrival, we were seated right away, which was a good start. However, when we went to use the restroom, we found it was out of serviceâfirst red flag.
It took 17 minutes for a server to acknowledge us, and when we finally placed our order, we were shocked to hear that a simple side of three eggs would cost $11.00âridiculous.
The food came out quickly, but that wasnât necessarily a good thing. The grits were bland, the fish was neither crispy nor well-seasoned, and the sweet tea was overpoweringly sweet. The only highlight of the meal was the sweet potato fries.
While waiting, I saw an employee cutting lemons with one glove on, then digging through her purse with the same glove. To make it worse, those lemons were then left sitting on a table. Major hygiene concern!
We also requested real silverware and were told they ran out, so we were given plastic utensilsâwithout any napkins.
To top it all off, they charge a 3.99% fee just for paying with a card.
Overall, this place is unorganized, unsanitary, and in serious need of better training and management. I...
Read moreWe visited South Carolina from Phoenix, Arizona and the first place I wanted to go while on my birthday trip was to Kikiâs Chicken and Waffles. I am so glad that we were able to make it here fresh off the airplane. This was our first stop and I tell you we have no complaints. We experienced a lunch special with two chicken wings, mac & cheese, collard greens, and cornbread awesome. We had a lunch special with three chicken wings and a half of A Belgian waffle. The chicken was fresh. The waffle was fresh. Flavor was good. I had fried okra and a piece of fried whiting fish. The fried fish taste, wild caught, and it was really good. Lastly, I mentioned that my birthday was coming and I was given a treat. So Iâve never experienced a red velvet waffle and I had one topped with a powdered sugar, strawberries and a cream cheese glaze. Phenomenalđđž. I am so glad I was able to stop by this restaurant as my first stop in Charleston, South Carolina. The staff were very hospitable and took care of us really well. Thank you so much for making our...
