As of now I have only found one good Mexican place here in North Charleston. And guess what, it ain't this one. Should’ve read the reviews before actually going in. But then again you can't know until you try it, right? Well, we went in for dinner today, 01-03-2021, with my brother and his GF. It was around 5:00pm ish. We ordered a chicken Burrito, Carne asada Burrito, 2 carnita tacos, an order of fries, carne asada plate and 3 drinks. Total came out to $55.00 which to me seemed way too expensive for the quality of food they serve. The carne asada plate I ordered was bland, there was no flavor to it and it was super tough. I'm not one to complain in person because I don't want them to redo my plate and who knows what they'll do to it in the back. I’d rather pay and write one of these reviews instead. As for the burritos the same. They stuff them with so much stuff other than meat that there's no taste to it, similar to the asada plate. One things for sure, this will be the first and last time I will be going there. I would highly recommend you request an itemized receipt for your order as they tend to overcharge you unless you correct them by pointing out their prices on the menu. Also, make sure you bring enough cash to pay for your overcharged meal. They do not accept cards. In my own opinion. If you want better tasting food go to Tiki Taco. And I am sure they hardly clean and sanitize the tables after every customer that leaves. I found some old meat stuck to my seat. And a few customers left and all they did was pick up the trash...
Read moreThis place was a true disaster!! I called ahead due to Xmas Eve. Spoke with a man who said they'd open at 10am...it was 9:25 when I called. I told him I wanted Pork Tamales, he said no problem, come on down. So I left for the 25 minute drive.
I waited until just after 10am and knock on the door. A young woman with pinkish hair answered the door and said what do you want we are closed. I laughed and told her about the phone call I made and that's why I was there. She said you didn't call here. While in front of her I open my call log, showed her the number and then dialed. The phone behind her then rang and she picked it up as if not connecting that it was me who was calling. I laughed a little harder this time and then said it's literally me who is looking at you and who you were just talking to. She hung up the phone walked over and said we don't have pork. I laugh because I didn't see anything about pork yet, other than the phone call that I had made. Spoke with another lady who said they did have pork, she was dicing up hot dogs at this time, which was really confusing for a Mexican restaurant. I then went to the counter to the original woman who said you only want eight pork tamales, I said yes that is it. She told me how much it was which was insane, $38 and then she said we only accept cash for that.
This time I laughed even louder and told them they are crazy and a hot mess. Walked out and will...
Read moreFood was good, recently moved from San Diego and this is so far the closest Mexican food that I've found in the greater Charleston area. Prices are great (just make sure you order clearly, more on that below), tacos, serrano salsa, and horchata brought me right back to the border.
During our visit on a Tuesday evening it was busy but not so much that we couldn't find a seat. Out of the 20-25 people that came and went during our dinner only 2 others were dominant English speakers, which in my mind is the best sign.
Few notes: It was Cash only, no atm close by, had to go up the street to the Walgreens for cash back (max $20, made two trips). Make sure to pay for your food before eating. There was definite confusion over the bill, deal with this before you eat! Be sure to point on the menu what you are ordering if you do not speak Spanish, many dishes are similar in name and the person that took our order even with Spanglish did not return with what I was...
