Giving it 2 stars because the sushi is very good here. My cousin and I frequently go here for sushi and have never had a problem. Unfortunately all it takes is one horrible experience to ruin a restaurant for life. For years all I have wanted for my birthday dinner was to go to Kugo’s and have the hibachi dinner. Finally this year my family and I decided to go and take my young foster teen who has never experienced this before. From the beginning our server was very snappy with us and wanted our orders 3 minutes after sitting down. I was still going over the menu with my foster daughter. When the server returned we were ready and my cousin decided to order sushi. Not realizing that the kids menu was for 10 and under I ordered the kids shrimp hibachi for my foster daughter. The server angrily told me that it was for 10 and under. I explained that she would not eat an adult size meal but the waitress again snapped at me and said it didn’t matter. So I told her that I needed another minute to help my foster daughter decide on her dinner choice. She stood there glaring at me as I was looking at the menu. Then all of a sudden she said if we weren’t going to order hibachi that we needed to go sit someplace else. I told her that I was planning to order the hibachi and she said that because my cousin and foster daughter weren’t getting it that we couldn’t stay at the table. Now I saw several other people sitting there who didn’t have the hibachi but were sitting with their family members who did have it. I’m not quite sure what her issue with me was but that was the final straw. What was supposed to be an enjoyable long awaited birthday dinner turned into a nightmare due to a rude and downright mean waitress. So I stood up and said we were going elsewhere to eat. I have never walked out of a restaurant before but I wasn’t about to continue to be treated this way. The waitress then had the nerve to ask me if I was going to pay for my soda that I hadn’t even touched besides putting the straw in. I will never go to this restaurant again or refer it to anyone. My foster daughter now associates hibachi with a very bad experience and refuses to try it elsewhere. I understand someone having a bad night but there is never a reason to be mean to a...
Read moreRead moreFirst visit since there post COVID re-open and I was highly disappointed to say the least. Initially ecstatic tonsee they were opened to the public and not just take out! This used to be a favorite for any special occasion or when we had a hankering for sushi. Myself and 3 others (party of 4) went last night to celebrate my friends Birthday. They only had 1 cook on for the whole restaurant for hibachi. He rushed through our meal and was very impersonal. We ordered 2 sushi rolls (the Gorilla role $15 and the White Dragon $14) they both fell completely apart when picked up to eat with your fingers because you couldn't hold them with chopsticks. The couple next to us also ordered the Godzilla role before us and asked me as I took our first bite if it fell apart as I was fishing half my rice out of my soy sauce bowl. The owner (she is always so pleasant- at least that never changed-being sarcastic) was offended when I got up to get a 2nd pair of chopsticks and a soy sauce dish bc she only brought 1 of each when she delivered our sushi. You no longer get Miso soup and a salad- it's one or the other. No shrimp appetizer. And the vegetables- hardly had any zuchinni, and we are now adding tri-colored bell peppers to the mix as well as cauliflower. My friend got chicken and scallops for her meal and they were not the large bay scallops that you used to get- they were 5 tiny scallops about the size of a nickel when it was all said and done. The yum yum sauce is now white and chunky- not sure why they changed it, but tastes NOTHING like yumyum sauce at all! And for the kicker...she added a 15% gratuity to our bill- our 4 top- 2 couples! When we asked about it all she could say was "yeah," and I tried asking had we just walked in my husband and I would we have been charged gratuity...she said, "yeah," this apparently is now policy! We tipped the bus boy $5 and for the record , we would have left a 25-30% tip, but the overall experience and quality down right stunk. I know that we will not be returning to our once favorite restaurant for all occassions- we will go to either Misago at the old 422 Inn in Lebanon, Wasabi in Hershey, or Tokyo in Wyomissing! Much friendlier atmosphere, better food, and why change something if...
This was a second time returning to this establishment and it will definitely be our last! We arrived around 5pm for dinner. We opted to sit at a table and not the grill. Our waiter took our order and we were very precise with 3 or the 5 orders that we did not want mushroom (two for dislike and one for allergies). The clear soup tasted like dishwater. Very bland and no flavor. The salad dressing is so so - not the beat. The main meal was a complete disaster. The 3 meals that shouldn’t have mushroom did. The steak was ordered has medium and came out too well - almost burnt and inedible. We asked for extra yum yum sauce and we got salad dressing. The waiter had no idea what he was doing and tried to avoid eye contact once he knew he screwed up the order. We finally got his attention and told him about the screw up. He didn’t seem to care too much. The ‘manager’ came over and re-stated what was wrong and said he would fix it. However the other meals were getting cold while waiting on others to be prepared. While waiting, we overheard the table in front had their order screwed up. We waited for a total of 30 minutes and still no food. Our waiter was more concerned about the private room party than the little tables in the restaurant. We finally waved him down and told him that we just wanted to pay for what we had and to cancel our order & he nodded. No more than 5 minutes later, he came back with the food. We politely declined the food and asked again for the bill. For 2 sushi rolls, egg rolls, 5 drinks, miso soup, 4 fried rice and 1 fried noodles - total bill $50. We left in such disgust of the lack of service. Whatever you do, don’t go here. If you want Japanese food, take the drive to Hershey. We wish we did. We ended up at another establishment and had a blast with quality food.
Also, the bathrooms were disgusting with no soap or paper towels. There were no signs stating that employees must wash their hands prior to returning to...
