On a trip to Lake Erie, we were looking for a place that served breakfast all day to enjoy an unrushed morning. Butch’s Diner in North East, PA seemed to fit the bill and had decent reviews. I really wanted to like the place. The kindest thing I can say is that it seems like a local favorite a bit beyond its best days. The staff did not seem like a happy bunch. One server was friendly and energetic, but not ours. I was super impressed with the size of the coffee mugs filled with piping hot coffee until I tasted it, it tasted like the coffee was made with dirty dishwater, no amount of sugar and cream, which we waited forever to receive, helped. I ordered the standard diner breakfast of bacon, eggs & home fries. Eggs were cooked as ordered, bacon was see through thin, but at least crispy. Home fries were canned cubed potatoes that barely touched the grill… slimy and blah. Hubby enjoyed his meal a bit more than me after he got the extra egg they tried to cheat on. Fun decor, but needs some cleaning. It was a popular spot but I can’t recommend it.

Cute diner. Love the vinyls on the wall as decor. Prices were a little higher than I anticipated for a diner tho plus a few unexpected higher up charges than I’d prefer too. $6.25 for BLT sandwich includes chips but a $3.75 French fry upcharge which is very high for most places ($2 standard). Also, server gave our choice of breads from white, wheat, Texas to sourdough,… I picked sourdough and she didn’t let me know there’s a .50 cent upcharge for sourdough bread. It’s not about the money, but as a server myself you should always let a customer know of any upcharge. Only one tomato on BLT when should be two. Overall it tasted good and good portion of fries and slaw. Just a few things like the upcharges I don’t like. Still gave 4 stars cause I like to support local restaurants and especially pieces of local history.

We arrived at 11:30 AM and already knew we wanted breakfast but did not have an opportunity to speak before the “spot on server” read us the lunch specials. I wanted to say whoah save your voice -we just want breakfast. She brought our coffee immediately, ordered our breakfast and we were paying our bill by 1230 pm. She was extremely efficient, only more friendly with the regulars. The omelets were not the most flavorful and had a taste that reminded us like when an egg tastes old / skillet flavor. Very clean place and restrooms. Cool vintage atmosphere

Even though the food was mediocre the staff was rude, and they were bad mouthing other customers:

What was supposed to be a fun dinner with my family turned out to be a uncomfortable, bad time. When I first got there everything seemed to be ok, we sat down and got our drinks, when we ordered I ordered the chicken salad but with no chicken (because I wanted the fries and a big salad not a tiny side salad) and explained to our waitress I'm a vegetarian, but when I explained all that to her she scrunched up her face with a disgusted look on her face. I just tried to shrug it off. Then when my salad came out I realized I was missing the fries on it, and since my waitress was coming our way I said "excuse me" only to be completely ignored. And she continued to the table behind us and sat down for 10 minutes talking to a different customer about a bridal shower that she attended, without any regard for her job. So I head up to the bar where another lady was and I simply explained that my salad was missing fries and asked for them on the side. A few minutes later a guy brings out a small plate with about 7 lukewarm fries on it. After that I saw him and the other two waitress talking quietly while continuously looking at me and chuckkling at what each other were saying. Not only did this make me feel uncomfortable it made me feel u welcomed, I will NOT be dining her again and I will certainly be telling others...

My partner and I have been coming to Butch's for Sunday breakfasts about twice a month for at least 8 months now, and we have always had a great experience! We walk in and the wait staff know we want 2 apple juices off the bat, and we either get the Greek omelete and sourdough or a scrambler, and always get an LA Cake or pancake to split. The Greek sauce is the best and the food is always a good time, but the one and only thing we would change is the breakfast potatoes. Both the hashbrowns and home fries have come out very undercooked every time we come, even if we order them "extra crispy." It's not a big deal and it always makes us laugh a bit, but the other food portions are perfect and we leave full every time, even without the potatoes. Overall the food is great, staff are kind, and it a quiet dinor to have breakfast at locally. Thank you for all...
