We ordered takeout for the first time since they moved to the new location. This had to be the most disgusting meal I’ve ever had in my life and I can’t believe a seasoned restaurant owner would allow a meal to go out of the kitchen like this. I ordered fried calamari and it stunk up my car, and when we got home it was soggy, slimy, tasted funky, and smelled like low tide, couldn’t even leave it in the trash had to take the bag outside it smelled so bad (see pictures). I hope none of us get sick. I also ordered a meatball sub, the sub roll was cut with a half inch on the bottom, and all the rest of the bread on the top so it was totally impossible to actually pick it up and eat it like a sub. It was thrown into the box and rolled over. The meatballs were very salty with minimal sauce. Tried picking out a little bit with a fork, but that kind defeated the whole purpose of getting a sub. My wife ordered fettuccine Alfredo and that was not good as well marginal at best. Stay away from this place disgusting food. Needless to say, most of it ended up in the trash. Update to owner’s response: I called the restaurant last night before leaving this review and was left on hold while they told me they needed to find a manager… after several minutes on hold, I realized I’d wasted enough time with these people and hung up. My wife got sick, just glad she didn’t end up with food poisoning. Hope they didn’t get anyone else sick last night. Will never go back.

Where to start? The meatballs were very flavourful, The marinara and Garlic bread was sublime, the pizza was giant, and the pepperoni was crazy good. The prosciutto salad was made with fresh mozzarella. The staff were friendly and attentive even though we got there close to closing, we had no wait time, and the food came relatively quick They serve Peroni Beer and Foxon Park soda. Now on to the desserts. the tiramisu Oh, the tiramisu. I've only had it once before (at a different place), and it was ok wasn't sure I was going to try it Oh my, I'm so glad I did. I fear it will be far too long before my taste buds are graced with such a profoundly smooth, well-balanced creamy tiramisu. Now for the cannolis, I have not had them in a while and forgot how good they could be. These bite-sized morsels of heaven are light and satisfying to no end. The addition of the sprinkles gave it a relaxed silly vibe that was perfect for the festive atmosphere. That leaves us with the carrot cake. Wow, the cake itself was light and fluffy, allowing the carrot flavor to take charge and not be overpowered by the frosting, which can be too sweet. Not in this case. The whipped topping helps bring it all together in a word Balanced. They also have an extensive menu. TBH, we didn't get off the appetizer page. Thank you to everyone that served us that night. You folks are great

My husband is a follower of pizza places and heard that New Haven, CT is supposed to have the best in the nation. I looked at the reviews on Yelp and saw photos of pizzas with burnt bubbles and crust which is not appealing to me, but we went anyway. The restaurant that had the most reviews was about two doors away from Abate's with a line of about 20 or more people outside. We told our waitress that we seen photos of burnt pies that looked like they were cooked in a brick oven and that we didn't want that style and she said they were not. Unfortunately, brick oven is not the reason why pizza is served overcooked in this town it is the norm. Our eggplant and mushroom pie was served with an overcooked crust (dark brown and some burnt parts) with burnt bubbles on top. I thought the sauce was watery, but that might have been caused by mushrooms. My husband seemed to enjoy it, but I've been brought up being told that burnt food is not good for you. After our meal, the waitress said we should've asked it light, but we had said we didn't like burned pizza before ordering. Just know that whether it is a brick or regular pizza oven that New Haven's style is well done with burnt marks unless you ask for it light.

My wife and I have eaten at the new restaurant in North Haven at least three times within the last couple of months.. We both order appetizers for ourselves with our meal. It started out where a family style salad was brought to the table. I decided to serve my wife and myself . I noticed one of the prongs of the four prong utensils was missing. I did not complain about it to our server because I didn't think it was necessary. At this point. The salad was very large and my wife and I had two servings each. As my wife was finishing her second salad, she felt the missing prong in her mouth and fortunately she wasn't injured by it. I brought it to our servicer attention and she was very apologetic for it. She stated that she has been doing her job for many years and she's never seen this ever happened before. We then were waiting for our appetizers. I ordered broccoli rob with sausage and my wife ordered panna cotta. My dish came out first and then the server never came back to give my wife her appetizer. I called her over to ask if we were going to receive it and she said no, It was still in the oven baking that always takes longer. Being in this food service business for many many years and knowing that and she was also I was expecting her to bring out both at the same time. I brought that to her attention and she apologized again. Meanwhile, my appetizer was getting ice cold. She did offer to have it remade again and I told her that it was just a waste of food. I would just wait for the panna cotta to come out for my wife. My wife ordered the seafood combination regular platter for her meal and this was not the first time that she ordered that meal. When our meals finally came to the table, we couldn't believe the portion size of that seafood combination dinner. You can actually count the fried clams on the plate and there was no more than maybe three or four. The fried shrimp didn't even look like they were coated with anything and if so they were just placed in the fryer as is. Unfortunately we will not be going back again. I understand that you can have an off day every now and then in a restaurant but this isn't acceptable especially with the cost of restaurant...

I ordered and received my food via Uber Eats. I was very excited to see Abate's on there. Since they left New Haven, I really missed their food and quality of service. Well, I could not have been more disappointed. First, I went to the "Subs" part of the menu and I clicked on Chicken Parmesan. After reading the description where it states that I could also choose a wrap or a hard roll, I chose neither of those. I did, however, type in the Order Notes that I'd like a "Sub Roll"; it showed up on a hard roll. Next, I ordered a 16" pizza with pepperoni (+$2.50) sausage (+$2.50) and mushroom (+$2.50). Because there was no place to click specific options, I again made a request in the Order Notes area. I asked for all pepperoni, 1/2 sausage and 1/2 mushroom. I also mentioned the money difference and said if they included some plastic knives and forks as well as some napkins, we could call it even and if there were any issues to please call me. Never received a call, utensils, napkins or a chicken parmesan sub. What we did received was a small chicken patty on hard roll and a pizza exactly the way I asked for it (So, the Notes were read). They chose to keep the extra money (it's the principle of the thing) and give us a sandwich that was most definitely not worth the price; at least the pizza was very tasty. In my opinion, when they left New Haven, they left their standards there as well. Maybe they feel like since leaving the Wooster Square area, they don't need to work so hard any longer. It's sad, truly...
