Hard Hat Cafe — Restaurant in North Haven

When the correct cheffing is working the food is outstanding(North Haven,CT). The nachos are so yummy I craved them lots..lol. BUT..... everytime we order Nachos to go, they never get the order right. A d always putting onions on them when we say No. The staff that takes the calls are usually not to blame.. they are decent. But once in a while they mess up by forgetting 1 item,it's the kitchen who doesn't follow order. Except when the good chef is working. He/She(don't know who it is)makes everything come out perfectly. Nothing burnt,cheese & chicken on nachos is perfectly melted. Steak is delicious,when done by right cheff. My guess is when not watched closely the oven temp goes up & it all burns. Especially the burgers. The last 1 my son had ruined his taste for them here. It was a hockey puck. Chared outside & not cooked in middle. They should Have their kitchen staff ALL TRAINED BY THE BEST CHEF they have. Then things will be constantly the same. Which is what is wanted & needed. So it's hit or miss at this place. I would give this place a zero if I could. I’m not going to say it because of the food or drinks. Both are ok. It’s about the pictures on the wall. I really don’t get worked up about things, I could care less about 90% of the things a lot of people care about. The pictures here however are of a few older men (the owner I assume) and their hunting adventures. Big game hunting is whatever but there is a Rhino, and an elephant and these two goons standing by proudly for having shot them. Not ok. These animals are critically endangered and because of foolish acts like these they will be gone before the next generation can blink. The sheer ignorance at having these awful pictures hung proudly as if to say “look at me, I’m so cool my money puts me on a level where I don’t have to care about things”, is mind boggling. Last I checked, the hunting of critically endangered species is illegal and very frowned upon. I will not be returning here and I will be spreading as much word as I can. This is simply not ok, the act is done and they can’t take it back but have the good sense to have shame in the deplorable acts though and take the photos down. I’m...

We pulled up to the discrete location, and I knew we didn't belong. Hard Hat is off the beaten trail on a dimly lit road. Things recommend by locals: drinks and wings. Things recommend by us: wings (they are average; not world famous).

The food was cooked well, but nothing that tasted great. It just tasted fried or coated in butter. Flavors that didn't match. And ingredients that weren't greeted with love. I get that this is a pub/bar, but still, we can be served decent food.

The drinks were made by over pouring random liquors, no consistency. The beer is warm. The bartenders will gladly drink with you.

The environmental issues: it is 2023, who even buys Styrofoam anything anymore? Please do not use Styrofoam plates. You took me back to college with the solo cup. Good job on the recycling of plates and napkins, though 🤮.
