I want to start by saying our server, Madi, was sweet and attentive. She did her very best with the situation at hand. The kitchen staff, however, were less than desired. When we arrived, the diner was practically empty. We were 1 of 5 sets of guests. Three were already seated, a family of 6 was seated just before us. Madi greeted us and took our drink order. All was good. She took our food order and put it right in. I had a perfect view of the counter and kitchen window. At that point, it all went downhill. We waited for over and hour for 2 orders of pancakes, a pork roll sandwich and a hamburger. While we were waiting, the atmosphere was tense and heated. The servers were impatient with the kitchen staff, as they were taking a long time and ignoring thr servers. AT one point, Madi reached out to the diner's manager who arrived while we were still waiting for our food. When the food finally arrived it was inedible. My home fries were undercooked and rubberlike. The pancakes were not cooked through and the hamburger was also inedible. We kindly asked for our check, paid, tipped Madi and left. We visited the local McDonald's after. Madi did apologize for the wait and poor service from...
Read moreI would categorize this diner as "a greasy spoon." Don't misunderstand. The diner was clean and the service was prompt. The spoon wasn't greasy either.
I ordered what I always order when I visit a new diner. Creamed chip beef. I do not like it on the toast. I prefer it over hashbrows with the toast in the side to mop up my plate with at the end. Unfortunately, they don't have hashbrowns, only homefries.
You ask , aren't they the same thing? The answer is an resounding NO!
So I had the CCB over the hefries. The portion size was disappointing. I really expected a service twice the size of what I got. The next issue is that the CCB is watery/runny, choose your adjective. I prefer it thick. It's didn't taste bad, but it just wasn't great.
The 3⭐ review is because the cleanliness and the fast service brought it up to what would have been a 2⭐ due to the CCB. Had the CCB been better, and the potatoes where hashbrowns instead homefries, they would have been a 5⭐.
I'll try the Manheim Diner again, but for something other than the creamed...
Read moreI’m from the south and so visiting family I’ve had almost all negative experiences in restaurants during my brief time out this way up north. That being said, this food is the most soul-having, delectable, and flavorful food I’ve had from a restaurant in the whole area. All I had was what we call the “all-star” in the south: eggs, bacon, toast, hashbrowns, and waffles/pancakes. Good price with nice helpings and spectacular flavor. The staff was better than great. I had a party of 10 or so and our waitress memorized every single one of our complicated orders, she didn’t write a single thing down, I’ve never seen that in my life. The restaurant is fantastic from having machines to occupy the little ones, the building itself being a marvel to look at, to tiny things like having the “good ice”; soft small ice that is easy to chew. I couldn’t say enough good things about it. If my life depended on saying something negative about the restaurant, I honestly don’t know if I could come up with something. I’d give it 6...
