K. I write super honest thorough Google reviews. And I want to help you as a business know where your younger late 20s early 30s community is at with how we feel and value these types of places. Look. I know this place has been rebranded. This is the third time. I went while it is the new village pub and eatery. When it was the Valkyrie, we didn't even know what it was until it was already the village pub and we've been here for almost 3 years. Finally found out it was a restaurant. Decided to give it a try. Had shrimp and grits. Really good. My husband had the Mac and cheese burger. Also good. But here's the thing. 1. I can go to hobos for a much cheaper and equally good if not better burger, cheaper apps, better service and a strong sense of identity in their brand. They pretty much own the good food this side of the lake right? So why are you trying to compete with bear lake tavern, Bernie O's, hobos, lefty and romos ...etc...difficult if you ask me. And there's some problems right out the gate .. The inside of the restaurant seems confused. I can understand you just went through a brand change but there's no theme. Like you have purple eggplant walls with mirrors all over it....two TVs on one wall. That's about it. And it was pretty empty for a Friday night. And I'll tell you why. You have a perfect place for a coffee shop. Not a pub. Not a restaurant. We have enough good tried and true ones here in Muskegon on this side of the causeway. But you know what there isn't? A cafe. You have Brooklyn's which ...let's be honest is more like a Jimmy John's style coffee shop. And biggby with no inside. So......you know what we need? A coffee shop. Been to Aldea in downtown? Place is always bumping. We need something like that over here. And your location is perfect for that. It's easily bikeable, in the center of a community. Has a large open space good for sound distribution and you even have a little patio? This screams cafe. You have a highschool right down the road. Great for teens after school. Right next to a church. Great for after or before church fellowship. Great for stopping before work throughout the week. I'm just saying. If I had the capitol right now I'd offer to buy it and do this myself but currently am not in the position. But seriously as a family new to the area but with lots of family and history in the area you're barking up the wrong tree with this. Younger families are moving in and we're looking for 3rd spaces. Places to go meet up with friends and coworkers. Places to go be around people in stress free spaces, places to stop while out running errands, catching up with Aunt Tammy etc. just...
Read moreWe went here last night for dinner. There where 12 in our group. It took over 30 minutes to get our drinks. Which consisted mostly of waters and Pop. After getting our drinks and sitting an additional 15 to 20 minutes our food order was taken. A few appetizers where ordered. The food came out pretty quick except the appetizers and our meals came out together. I ordered a taco salad. It came out looking like Nachos which I was fine with until I took a bite and the meat was cold. When the waitress mentioned it to the manager she loudly laughed and said taco salad meat is supposed to be cold and walked away. Never came to our table to discuss it. I have never been served a taco salad with cold meat. That's not how its supposed to be served. Another person. Who ordered the summer plate said her fruit was old.if you are trying to rebrand or even just stay open you need to do better. Everyone in our party all said they would not come back. I am a big supporter of area restuarants but this one is definitely...
Read moreIt's fine but like another reviewer says (and my friends within N Muskegon have mentioned as well) this really needs to be a quick service restaurant or cafe. I've been quite a few times & usually am only one of a couple other parties in the restaurants, even on the weekends. Nothing really draws you to here but it's just an okay substitute when you go to BLT or Hobo's too much.
If this was like Chicago's 'Small Cheval' or a quick cafe I'd imagine it'd be extremely successful rather than a more expensive low volume restaurant.
You have the school right next to you & are the entrance/exit of the town, great location for people coming in or out and on the move.
This rendition & the last two are pretty much proven to not work so maybe try something new...
