Came in Sunday Aug. 3rd around dinner time. My group ordered two appetizers, three sandwiches, and drinks. Food was delicious, no doubt or issue with anything food related. I ordered a coke to drink with the meal because believe it or not some people don't drink alcohol but still like to eat. It was flat and just watery syrup but I suffered through it simply to have something to drink. When the food came, the server asked for any refills and I asked if I could have a 7-up instead of another coke. It was brought out by the bartender and slammed down on the table making me feel like I've done something wrong by asking for a non-alcoholic drink. This 7-up was flat as well. When the server came by to pick up some plates I asked if they used a fountain system or bottles for their drinks. She stated they used a fountain and I advised them they might need to check their CO-2 level because my drinks have been flat. No carbonation, just syrup. She says she will have him change it and bring me a replacement. Mind you, I've worked in the restaurant business my whole life and didn't want to be a pain, but it's something I'm fairly aware happens sometimes. I asked my party to try the drink to make sure it wasn't just my taste buds being off. They agreed it was straight up syrup. No one else in the restaurant was drinking soft drinks, so maybe they hadn't been told yet. I am seated next to the bar and can literally see the bartender hold up a glass above his head, spray the drink from the hand held soda gun, and because there were some bubbles when it sprayed out, say in a condescending tone, "I don't see what the problem is", and then I was brought out another flat drink. The liquid being forced thru the nozzle creates air bubbles. Air bubbles does not equal carbonation. This bartender never tried the product before sending it back out, he just knew better. He was energetic and kind with all the other people who were buying alcohol but short and came off annoyed with my group who didn't order alcohol. At this point I'm just over it, the meal is done and I'm ready to leave. The server asked if this replacement drink was better and I told her no, it's still flat, mainly because nothing was done to rectify it. She said she will have him take the drink off the bill, which I appreciated since the soft drinks were not drinkable. The bill comes out, and I still have a charge for the flat coke I had ordered at the beginning of the meal. I had asked for the different drink as a refill because the coke was horrible. Would I really have been charged for a second fountain drink had I not said anything? That just blows my mind considering the cheap cost of soda drinks. So I ended up paying for a drink I couldnt drink. Over all poor service, great food, horrible problem resolution, and that bartender will be the sole reason I don't return and will be the main focus of warning to anyone I talk to who asks about this place. Get alcohol from the old dude behind the bar or be treated...
Read moreEDIT: the owner is only replying about the fee. This is not a standard thing and have no idea if it was on the menu. Either way, high prices and charging you fees others don't (pick one or the other, noth both). Plus his replies on other reviews have straight up lies about CC costs. All the major ones charge 2.90% + 0.30 fees. This is built into product costs everywhere. Hes charging as if the costs are in the food prices and then DOUBLE DIPPING by adding the fee. Server never mentioned the fee to us nor did we catch whatever fine print he put on things.
We won't be coming back and with his attitude he's not going to last very long. If the food portions weren't absolutely laughable I probably wouldn't care but the way things are run makes it very obvious that the owner is trying to max out profits at every turn including cutting down on portion sizes while raising prices AND adding fees. I guess having staff that you don't have to pay min wage to because of tips still isn't enough profit for them.
The food was OK but the prices and HIDDEN FEES (we dined outside, never went inside) are crazy. My lady and I got 2 apps and 2 meals with tea to drink. The $10 cheese curds were pitiful in size, barely one serving. The $11 perogis were bland. The $17 DOLLAR burger came with less than a small amount of fries and the $19 DOLLAR schnitzel plate was bland as well.
Then on top of the high prices they charge ANOTHER 3% fee for credit card processing. I run a business as well. If you accept cards you build it into the price (which by the high prices on everything you'd think its already there).
The service was slow and they even dropped one of our meals so we had to wait again. We will NOT be going back. The value for the food and them charging 3% on TOP of their high prices is insane. We've been here once before they expanded and the prices were OK. But for $80+ (with tip) I can get a better meal at a higher end place like coopers hawk that has...
Read moreExcellent brewery. They have some of the best beer in the area, and they’re food is absolutely delicious. Big fan! Been coming here for years and they have maintained their quality and atmosphere! Great servers as well!
The German style beer focus has always been a huge draw for me. Their Oktoberfest beer has always been one of my top 3 favorites each year, and they currently have a Schwarzbier, which is one of my favorite styles! No one in the area makes that style (Gnosis has made one recently but that’s is), and New Oberfalz knows how to do it! Plus the German style Pilsner and the helles are phenomenal.
The food is outstanding. The cheese curds are delicious, the avocado burger is one of the better ones I’ve had, and the schnitzel is so well done. The menu does go through minor seasonal changes (the schnitzel sandwich may just become a schnitzel dish or vice versa) with some additions and subtractions, but I’ve never had anything less than excellent with the food. And the schnitzel sandwich is reminiscent of your typical pork tenderloin sandwich found in the rest of Indiana. It looks absurd and tastes as delicious as it looks ridiculous. Order it. See pictures below.
Unfortunately there is a sign posted that says starting 9/1/24 they will start to add a 3% surcharge to any bill paid with a credit card, and that is always an automatic minus 2 stars with me. No exception. So when this comes into effect I will be subtracting two stars from...
