I have nothing but high praise for OMG Pastries. For everyone with dietary restrictions, you won't find many places more accommodating. I get severely sick if there's any cross-contamination of gluten or wheat. Let me tell you now: I have never once been gluten'd here; there's a real effort to separate the gluten-free goodies as much as possible to keep folks like us safe.
I'm so thankful for this place. The lovely baker/owner Juanita is so sweet and willing to talk with you, find workarounds, and even workshop recipes. She really cares about making quality, safe products, - she even remembered my specific food allergies the 2nd time I came in! She also has a real dedication to baking with CLEAN ingredients, and you can feel the difference!
I recommend this place to anybody, and especially if you have something like gluten-intolerance and have been missing out on pastries and pies. I can have pumpkin pie again and not worry!
UPDATE WITH PHOTOS:
Missing Baker's Square's candy cane pie (RIP), I ran the idea by Juanita if she would ever make something similar. She was open to trying, and we discussed what that might look like: a peppermint chocolate whipped pie with (gluten-free) Oreo crust.
The photos are the finished product, and it is DELICIOUS! It's a hit over here - very creamy and exactly what a candy cane...
Read moreI’ve passed by this place a few times and finally had a free Saturday to stop in. When I walked in, no one was at the front. The owner was seated toward the back, said hello, and I replied then said that I’d never been there before and wanted to check it out. If I were the owner, I’d see this as an opportunity to engage a potential new customer but instead, she remained on her phone while I looked around. I asked if they had peanut butter cookies, and she responded, “Yeah, there should be some in there.” Since I couldn’t get them myself, I expected she would come over to assist right away, but she didn't. I ordered a cookie and a slice of cheesecake. At checkout, I noticed what looked like homemade gelato or Italian ice. I asked if it was freshly made in-house, and she said yes, but didn’t offer a sample, which felt like another missed opportunity to create a great first impression and potentially sell more.
As for the items I purchased, the peanut butter flavor was faint, almost secondary, and not the bold flavor I expected. The Cheesecake, was creamy and rich in texture, but the flavor didn’t match my expectations. I spent a total of 8 bucks
Ultimately, because of the poor customer service, I will not be returning to try...
Read moreGLUTEN FREE GOODIES AT GREAT PRICES!!! Ok, I don’t know how I’m just discovering this amazing little neighborhood bakery! Right down the street in Munster, Indiana! All the bakery goods looked scrumptious (as pictured) and included several varieties of homemade gelato! Husband and I were not too interested in the gfree options today (lemon bar or apple oat bar), but are really excited to come back when there are gluten-free caramel brownies and or cookies in stock! Owner was incredibly friendly and informative. Let us know that gfree cakes and BREADS could be made to order! She will also try and recreate any bakery good you would like (say, your grandmother’s famous custard pie, or something random you saw on Pinterest). Anyway, got a gluten-full brownie pop for daughter and a couple fruit tarts for grands— all were big hits! And the total for these 3 items was only 12 bucks, which was extremely reasonable!!! I’ve paid far more for much less! Can’t wait to head back for more!!!...
