A.J. Tomaiolo's Restaurant — Restaurant in Northborough

Went to try this place out for Valentines Day and made last minute reservations which they were able to accommodate. They sat us at a table at the front entrance near the hostess desk next to a window seat which I had to move to another seat since it was too cold to sit by the window plus my seat was freakin freezing. I decided to order one of the valentines dinner specials not an Italian dish what a mistake that was from the get go. I end up ordering the rib eye steak with peppercorn sauce with portobello mushrooms it came with a salad. 20 minutes waiting around for our salads and bread basket to come the server never came by to check up on us to let us know they were running behind instead I made a comment to my family “it’s going be a long night waiting for our salads and bread basket” soon after we get the salads and bread my husband said that the hostess probably heard what you said probably yes. After that we were served our entrees I got the ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce. Let me tell you the sauce was tasteless, bland, no taste at all and the ribeye wasn’t seasoned. I told my server that it had no taste the sauce wa bland and her remark was “your the first customer to say that how dare she question me instead she failed to say I’m sorry you don’t like it do you want order something else I can get the manager over here!! The server failed 100%. Food quality failed 100%. and she earned a bad tip!! and We will never return to this place...

I would first like to state that we have been here several times over the past few years and have enjoyed both, the service and the food. I took my wife here for her birthday on 12 Aug. and experienced the worst meal service in my entire life. We were promptly greeted by a waitperson for a drinks order however the drinks didn't arrive for 13 minutes. When the drinks did arrive we placed an appetizer order and stated we would be ordering entrees after we received our appetizers. The appetizers arrived 40 minutes later. While we were waiting the waitperson offered some diatribe about a printer problem with orders. Rather peculiar as people that had come in after us had eaten and left and the takeout service seemed to be flourishing. When the appetizers finally arrived we placed our entree orders. After waiting one hour and 18 minutes we finally gave up. They offered to put our food in takeout containers. We offered to pay for what we had eaten and declined the entrees. As management has obviously not trained their staff to keep customers engaged and content it is no wonder the service is lacking. We will never return...

The house salad was several hours old and sticking to the plate. The "Fresh bread" that came with the hot Italian Finger peppers was stale, although the special, pork shank and mashed potatoes, was good. Worst of all, when I asked for new bread as the menu expressly states "Fresh Bread", one waitress went to take it away while another grabbed it from her, brought it back to the table and quite defensively told me that the bread was in fact fresh and the reason I thought it was stale was due to the crust and how the cooks prepared it...(whaa?).. Shocked as I was, this was my first time here, so I just assumed this was part of the "Tomaiolo's experience". One that, despite the warm ambiance and pleasant greeters, is not one I am likely to seek out again. Overall it was a disappointing experience. I wasn't expecting the quality of a VIA or Romaine's (and certainly did not get it), but subpar food can easily be overcome by decent service and a pleasant environment.
