The new owner has put the name of "Milich's" name to shame. My family has been going here for well over 30 years, if not more, and after this weekend, we will NOT be returning. My mom and I went for lunch and decided to pay it forward and pay for an elderly lady that was having lunch by herself. The waitress took the payment and preceded to take care of the lady's check so it was taken care of. The elderly lady learned what we had done, said her thanks and left. We noticed the owner running around frantically up to the front then proceeding to ask loudly if "that was that lady in the blue car that just left" so all of the 6 customers seated could hear him throughout the dining room. He continued his huffy attitude and went to ring someone out at the register. My mom and I were seated at the complete opposite end of where the register is at and we could hear his whole conversation of bashing that elderly woman that just left to the customers he was ringing out! My mom spoke up and told him what we had done and he continued to make it a big deal thinking she had dined and dashed and there was no tip given, not taking in to consideration of what we had done and we of course put that into the equation of paying for her meal. He continued to speak very rudely of this lady and us so that the whole restaurant could hear. We almost left right then and there due to him talking down on us and the elderly lady, but decided to stick it out until our meals had come. When our meals came, that's what sent us over the edge. My mom ordered the thigh dinner and received 6 thighs the size of Wendy's nuggets! The coleslaw was noticeably old and my chicken breast was so slimy, the breading was literally gooey and sliding off. At this point, enough was enough. We tipped our waitress, because it was not her fault by any means and went to the register to tell the owner our concerns. He had no sympathy for anything we had to say and continued to talk loud and rudely towards us. Based on the article that was written about the new owner, Scott Marble, and his background in the food industry and owning other companies in the food industry- I think this should be his last ownership based on the experience we had yesterday with his service, food, and attitude. When we left, there was not a single person in that place except the workers, and now I know why. You have lost MANY loyal customers and that number will continue to grow with Scott Marble as the owner. Such a disappointment. We went straight to White House Chicken in Barberton and had a GREAT experience. The atmosphere was light and happy and the food was amazing with cheaper prices! Thank you Village Inn Chicken for steering us in another direction with better tasting chicken with a great atmosphere with friendly people at...
Read moreAfter a friend's funeral at a local church, we wanted to get something to eat. I enjoyed the Google description: "Humble, long-running restaurant..." so we headed here.
When we arrived and opened the car door, we were blown away (in a good way) by the aroma of meat being smoked out back. We got inside and it smelled just as good!
We were seated quickly and our waitress came over to get our drink orders within a minute or so. After she brought our drinks a few minutes later, she took our orders. My wife ordered a pulled pork sandwich with green beans, baked beans, and hush puppies as her sides. The waitress pointed out that the hush puppies were $.75 extra, which was also listed on the menu. I ordered a half-rack of ribs with applesauce, hush puppies, and baked beans as my sides.
The waitress brought out our meals within ten minutes or so. The owner of the place was cooking and brought my ribs out, saying, "These are going to change your life, Brother!" as he put them on the table. Well... maybe they weren't life-changing, but they were pretty damned good! The half-rack was huge and covered the plate! The pulled pork in my wife's sandwich was also a very generous serving size. We both ended up taking parts of our meals home for the next day's lunch.
The sides were good. The hush puppies may have been just a hair over-cooked, but they were still hot and tasty. The baked beans weren't exactly hot, but they were warm and had good flavor.
We discovered that this was the first day that the restaurant was serving the ribs and pulled pork sandwich. A patron at the next booth was telling us that he usually gets the chicken or fish, saying both are excellent, but he opted for the ribs that day.
A little later, the owner/cook was out with a pan and was offering rib samples to everyone in the place. He talked with us for a few minutes and seems to be very sincere on serving good food.
The final bonus was that they offer free soft-serve ice cream for dessert! it was good, too -- creamy, but not too creamy, and had good flavor.
The "atmosphere" is lacking, however. This is a "long-running" restaurant and it shows -- think 1960's style booths and basic tables. Our table had what appeared to be Kool Aid stains. My wife said the women's bathroom was "disgusting." The men's bathroom wasn't disgusting, but it needed to be cleaned -- lot of paper towels and bits of toilet paper were laying all over the floor. The parking lot was very torn up and filled with craters.
So... GREAT food. A pleasant waitress and owner who seemed to be very involved in the place. We'll be back to check out the fish and chicken, but... clean up the bathrooms and get the...
Read moreWhere do I even start... with the new "reopening" of the once beloved restaurant, I was excited to try it as my great aunt and uncle said this used to be the best place around when they were kids. Previously working in a restaurant, I knew what I was getting into when she told me on the phone they were slammed. There was about an hour ordering wait time when I called in, which was completely fine. I called in my order at 5:00 and the lady on the phone said my pick up time would be 5:50. Upon arriving at 5:50, I only anticipated maybe waiting an additional 10 MAYBE 15 mins already knowing the food business, instead I waited 40 mins! The lady at the register was nothing but rude and aggressive not only towards me but everyone else. It got slammed and instead of the lady being patient she got attitudes with everyone which is uncalled for. I found my way to the back and there was another customer waiting up in the front right beside the cash register, she was able to see back into the kitchen where she told about 8 of us waiting that workers were handling the meat WITH NO GLOVES! When another customer who was also waiting on the food spoke to the Manger/Owner whoever he was about this he didn't have much to say except "the people who handle food wear gloves, you can come back and see if you want", this was after already seeing it happen with our own eyes. It was the wracks of chicken that already went through the deep fryer. Needless to say after patiently waiting for 20 mins I asked if they knew when I would receive my order. They said they just now put the chicken in the fryer and said "we are working on it". If I was supposed to pick up at 5:50, why are you just now making the food after already waiting???? The disorganisation was like none other. I could go on and on and on about what I witnessed while I was waiting but that would be a book. I finally got my food 40 mins after the time I was told it would be ready and I peeked in the bags to make sure it was right. The chicken was wrapped in foil so I didn't feel it was necessary to check that even though I should have. I ordered 2 ALL WHITE chicken dinners (chicken breasts) with sides and what i received was an assortment of thighs wings and legs. I am beyond disappointed and frustrated. They certainly need to fix this before they go...
