My wife and friends just threw me a birthday party here recently, and it was great. I've been coming here for over a year, and they never disappoint. Jason and the staff are great, always super friendly and accommodating.
I have several family members and friends that don't drink beer, but tried some that night, and each of them found something they really liked. That's not to be taken lightly, because I NEVER see these people drink beer.
They typically have a nice variety of beers to suit many different tastes. I typically gravitate towards porters and stouts, and the Lightning Struck Twice is one of my all time favorites. However, pilsners, IPAs, lagers, ales, and ciders are typically represented on their menu.
They don't serve food, but welcome outside food onsite. For the party we had Uncle D's BBQ cater the party, and it went very smoothly (I think Uncle D's waived the delivery fee for the catering because it was at Epicure). - - - Side note: Uncle D's has some Epicure inspired sauces that are great. - - - Lots of great beers to pair with the BBQ.
But I digress... the atmosphere is perfect for a brewery that clearly isn't catering to popular opinions. Meaning they don't stay open terribly late, and you won't find tons people from either side of the political aisle looking for trouble, or just being rude. Everyone there is great, and I would not hesitate to bring my kids there if the situation warranted.
BOTTOM LINE: There are several options for local breweries in southeastern CT, and I would put Epicure near or AT the top of the pack. Worth a trip. You won't be disappointed!

Read moreThis review is a part of my quest of visiting all CT breweries. I've learned about Epicure Brewing at Willimantic beer festival and decided to pay a visit.
The brewery occupies a big chunk of an industrial building. It has its own parking lot just in front of the entrance. The place is bigger than it looks from the outside. It has a singular room with multiple seating options. There are a lot of vet-related decorations here. I personally liked the vibe of the place. No food is served inside except snacks, but you can order from nearby restaurants. I'll also give a shoutout to one of the owners of the place - Jobina - for being extremely friendly and sharing stories about the place.
You can order full and short pours as well as flights here. For this review, I tried everything they had on tap. There's a variety of styles available, so everyone will find something they will like. But I was really impressed by how solid all the options were. There's no single beer I can leave a complaint about. Even the styles that I don't really enjoy, like Berliner Weisse or Seltzers, were loaded with taste. My favorites for the day were Maibock (Helles Bock) and Finnegan Dealt It (Red Ale) - both bursting with flavor and a direct hit towards their respective styles.
I will recommend this brewery to any craft beer enthusiast around. And I'm convinced that it's worth a separate trip just to...
Read moreDefinitely stop in for a few beers here. They have a great assortment of beers to enjoy, and not just IPAs, but they do have those as well. They had a lager, a stout, a sour, an irish red, and a high octane Brazilian waxing available. They were delicious. They also have their beers in cans so you can take home your favorites. The bar is spacious, and nice and cool to beat that summer heat. They let local artists display their work on the walls. They have a TouchTunes to enjoy your favorite music, and, when nobody is paying for music, they play house tunes, so it's never totally silent. They have indoor cornhole with towering ceilings so you don't have to worry about your bags scraping the ceiling. Clean bathrooms. They have an assortment of board games and card games for the customers to use to kill time. There is a sweet vintage motorcycle dangling from the ceiling, which every bar should have. They don't serve food as far as I know, this was my first time, but they invite you to bring your own, or order food and have it delivered there. They have a Mug Club and the mugs were sold out, and there were a lot of them, so it appears they have a loyal and deep following. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. There's no reason that you shouldn't be...
