My tastebuds were filled with pleasure. Mommy's Delicious Food is exquisitely spectacular. The food is rich with flavor. I have been to the restaurant twice. The first time, I ordered Jerk chicken with steamed veggie and rice and peas. My friend ordered their Curry chicken with steamed veggie and rice. The portions were very large and filling! I couldnt wait to come back for more! The second time is the food you see in the photos! I ordered the spicy jerk chicken, fall-off-the-bone,watery-mouth goodness (again), steamed veggie, and rice and peas with oxtail sauce. Whats more is that I asked about their special! Pate Kode! I received a lesson about what pate kode is within the Haitian culture. The owner offered either the beef or smoked fish, onions, and peppers, so I picked both! I love fried patties! She asked if I wanted the hard boiled egg in it, which is traditional, and I fully welcomed it. My experience was enjoyable. With ordering take out/take away, I brought my food 20 minutes away to eat and my food remained hot. The flavor content as I mentioned is overwhelmingly tasteful; and when I say tasteful, I mean full of flavor dancing on your palette and spirit. The spices are complex, and the jerk spices finds its way beyond the skin to the very tender meat with every bite. The steamed veggie is also flavorful. Its not just from steamed water. The veggies hold a warm zesty-comfort flavor as well. When I visit various Jamaican cuisine and Carribean restaurants, I try to always include oxtail sauce on my rice. Mommy's does not skip a beat. Also pictured are the beef pate kode and smoked fish pate kode, which were both made fresh! The smokiness of the fish perfumes the air and charges the tastebuds with cured intensity, met with the boiled egg that softens/balances the delicacy. The amount of meat filling was surprisingly more than I would have expected (for both beef and the smoked fish). This place is beyond 5â. Come here for casual eats and decadent flavor. Enjoy inside, seating outdoors, at the parks down the street, or at home. There is this feeling, when you take the first bite, of the love for cooking and sharing food from one's origins. My aunt used to own a cooking school-I know passion for food when I see it. These women have passion! My review is long overdue. I was there in May. Though living farther away now, I am looking forward to enjoying another taste of the Carribean and am thankful for these women who enthusiastically share their joy and continue to pour their healing and talented creole food in Norwich, CT....
Read moreGood home cooked food made fresh daily. The ladies in the kitchen sure know what they are doing. If you are u familiar with the menu please go in they give u samples on what you are unsure of. You will not be disappointed if you come in and try this good Caribbean cuisine. Tbh Ive been eating almost everyday at mommy's, But I also get obsessed with think I truly love. If this going to be a new experience for you please just go in and try the food they have alot of already made fresh food. Also the portion sizes for the main dishes are very pleasing. If you aren't a big eater then share with your family or friends even co workers. The owner her self and her nephew are very friendly and loving people. And for the cost u can't go wrong when u pay for what u pay at any gross fast good restaurants. Only complaint is that the ladies are a little on steady side of service so please be prepared to wait a little so order ahead when you get familiar with the line. Other than that food taste n size for the main already made food...
Read moreThis is the best Caribbean food on the NE seaboard hands down. I've tried all the jerk chicken from Boston to New Haven and Mommie's has the depth of flavor, the juiciest texture and the authenticity that doesn't compare to any others that I've tasted..not to mention the prices are fair and worth every penny. The chef is consistent too! I can always count on the exact same flavor and the generous portions every single time. I love EVERY entree that comes out of kitchen; the curry chicken, the oxtail, the fried snapper, the legumes. Every one is so satisfying and fulfilling. I can't rave enough about the pikliz as well! I might sound corny but as a true foody I drive 40 minutes each time to Mommies knowing I am not going to be let down. It's a real treat for me to be able to count on excellent food that takes me straight to Haiti. This is a 10 out of 10 for me and I hope more people get a chance to give thanks and praises to a chef who unequivocally satisfies my foody soul. THANK YOU...
