Double Three — Restaurant in Oʻahu

We saw a post about the new location in Kailua and it sounded good so we went to check it out. It’s a small shop, and super clean and cute looking. You could smell the waffles before you even opened the door and let me just say, I hope heaven smells like that because OMG! The gentleman working there was super nice and polite and gave us instructions on the ordering process which is very convenient. You fill out a small slip of paper -that contains the entire menu for your convenience- with your order selection and your name and hand it to the employee to fulfill. We had a relatively short wait time considering there was one order ahead of ours and the waffles are made fresh as you order them. I had the red velvet waffle with macadamia nut ice cream and Nutella sauce and let me just say I have never had an ice cream experience I have enjoyed more than this one. The waffle is a bubble waffle so the thinner parts are nice and crisp and the bubbles are soft and chewy. Such a cool texture and the flavor was fabulous. Not too sweet and a perfect compliment to the ice cream. The macadamia nut ice cream was creamy and had a light sweet flavor and pieces of macadamia in it. Pairing the waffle and ice cream was perfect. The waffle is warm and it begins to melt the ice cream just slightly which allows the ice cream to kind of soften the waffle a little. The presentation was perfect as well. It looks as good as it tastes! My kids were huge fans too. The price point is very reasonable considering the size of the dessert we chose and the level of artistry that went into making it look so yummy not to mention how good it tasted. I’ve come to Double Three a few times and I’ve generally have had a pretty good experience. This past time ended all of that. I came in and witnessed one of the baristas handling different peoples food all while using the same pair of gloves. Another person who had come in noticed the same and had nicely asked for them to change their gloves when making their order. A random person who claimed to have worked at double three immediately stepped in and started interrogating the person who asked for them to change their gloves. “Are you allergic to something?” “We’re super busy we don’t usually have time to change gloves” “we generally don’t have time to wash our hands” and whatever other excuses this random person could come up with. Strike1. When said barista decided to change her gloves she tried to open the gloves by blowing into it!? Who in their right minds, especially in the food service industry opens gloves like that!? Strike 2. Then come to find out after asking for refunds the group had started to leave, the random person that claimed to be an employee was just that baristas sister “trying to stand up for her.” Strike 3. Middle management/upper management needs to retrain these employees and tell their family members to mind their own business unless you like losing business because their family members feel the need to “stick up for them” when they’re clearly...

We loved our treats from Double Three. It was a welcomed detour from other tried and true desserts that we usually partake in. The size alone of this delightful treat is enough for 2 or more to share. There are any number of combinations of different flavored waffles and toppings. You can literally be overwhelmed trying to order since everything sounds delicious. Options include just the bubble waffle itself without a ice cream topping. Or just ice cream in a cup with toppings. As a side note if its on a hot day be prepared ro eat quickly. Its a massive dessert and melts quickly. The waffle is best crispy and hot paired with a creamy ice cream. It stays crispy about 15 min after it is served. Although you can take it home and it is still good for later. I warmed mine up in the microwave it wasn't crispy anymore but still delicious. Double Three is located in Kailua Town. Plenty of street parking. We went on a Saturday and found a stall about three storefronts away, however when we were there it filled up quick.
