Embarrassing service and quality. Salad is lettuce soaked in thousand island dressing! Salad dressing is not mentioned on the menu or by the server and not Japanese cuisine, this ruined the lettuce they call salad. "Appetizers" are a joke, 4 pods of tiny edamame, and a dash of bean sprouts soaked in salty soy sauce, so the bean sprouts were inedible. Received a Raw egg after asking if the egg that comes with the Udon is cooked and told it is cooked. Yellow yolk flowed all over the udon noodles. The Udon was supposed to come with chicken and there was barely two pieces of tiny chicken in the bowl. The udon bowl was boiling and loaded with steam when it came out so it was impossible to eat or enjoy until much time passed to cool it. Server forgot us while we waited to place our order, waited 15-20 minutes with the menu off to the side to make clear we were ready to order. When the miso soup came out, there was no soup spoon so instead if waiting longer I had to go to the counter and ask for a spoon for the miso soup. The main course came before the "appetizers" so after waiting 10 min, I went to the counter to ask the server who was cleaning if the appetizers were on the way. Server said oh my mistake and disappeared I supposed she went to correct her deficiency. I sat down at the soy sauce soaked bean sprouts and 4 edamame pods arrived. By the time I sorted out the mess, the main dish of cheap white rice and chicken served...
Read moreYummeeee Beef Sukiyaki. I'm a Beef Sukiyaki freak & I think I've eaten my share of Beef Sukiyaki over the past 50 years here on O'ahu. This Sukiyaki is loaded!! HUGE hot pot, tender beef, noodles and veggies!!! I've tried most of their dishes, tempura, beef teriyaki, etc and the food is great. Besides the food, the service is good and here....wait for it...IT'S CLEAN. OMG, there's quite a few other Japanese joints I've eaten at, but not so hygienic. Even if the food is great, FOR ME, the place has to be clean. I'm not picky, snobby or closed minded, I've had some great food in sketchy surroundings, but if I see some creepy crawlies cruising past me or on me, sorry!!! That just equals dirty and contaminated kitchen...I'm outa there big time!!! Kenko-ya doesn't scare me at all and the food is great...that's why my family & I keep going back. I can relax, eat, enjoy my experience without wondering and worrying what's going on behind the scene. LOVE YOU KENKO-YA!!! I'll be back Friday for my usual fix. Oh, BYOB, go to Safeway and bring...
Read moreWe live on the West side and decided to get food before heading back home from Kailua Beach. We were in the mood for some seafood, so that's what we typed into Google when searching for places to eat. Thankfully, Kenko Ya in Kaneohe popped up, and we decided to give it a try! We arrived around 8pm on a Monday evening and were sat instantly. Our table ordered a lot of items, but the ones that stuck out the most were the Hawaiian, Kaneohe Sunset, and Volcano rolls, the Sashimi, as well as the Sweet Potato Tempura. The food came out very fast and was prepared well. The tempura was crispy and the breading was not too thick, and all the sushi tasted very fresh! We also ordered the Peach Jinro, and we were not disappointed in the flavor. Overall, we had a great experience, finished everything on the table, and will definitely go back when we're on the...
