**A Gem in Kailua—Nico’s Delivers Great Food & Atmosphere** Nico’s Kailua is exactly the kind of restaurant that makes dining out a pleasure. Spacious, open, and bright, it offers a welcoming atmosphere where you can truly relax. While fine dining has its place, there’s something special about a restaurant like Nico’s—where great service, a lively ambiance, and delicious food come together effortlessly. We dropped in for lunch without reservations and were pleasantly surprised that we didn’t have to wait. The menu offered plenty of tempting choices, and we opted for the Chicken Katsu, the Grilled Kalbi short ribs special, and the Macadamia panko-crusted mahi-mahi (the special of the day). Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The Kalbi ribs, in particular, were outstanding—tender, well-seasoned, and simply delicious. The presentation was unique, served in clamshell takeout containers—a casual touch that fit the restaurant’s relaxed vibe. Beyond the food, Nico’s has even more to offer: a variety of great desserts, a lively bar area, and live music that adds to the experience. The prices are reasonable, making it easy to enjoy a satisfying meal without overthinking it. If you’re looking for a fantastic dining spot in Kailua where you can unwind and savor great food, Nico’s is a solid choice. I loved it and would happily go back!

The food was good and our server was great. My family enjoyed the experience. But…Lots of open tables by the windows with water views.. but they were not seating those tables. They just left the tables dirty and expected nobody to ask to sit at them. I could hear the frustrations of the staff when guests kept asking to sit by the windows.. I could hear the staff complaining when they were getting sat and should have been getting off. A little tip from my experience in Hospitality.. If you have a desirable section next to windows with a water view.. and don’t want to seat those tables for what ever your reasoning was.. (cut staff early, short staffed, or just what your business model is) Push the tables together like it is set for a large party.. Then you won’t have the 5 different 2&3 tops asking to sit there.. (it will save your staff frustrations)

Delicious! The appetizers (poke nachos, fish bites & calamari) we're so good that we filled up on just those alone. Presentation of the nachos was elegant. (Now) I wished I taken a photo of it. Being from the mainland I expected the regular nacho chips but here they used wonton chips which made it so much better. Calamari & tempura bites were lightly coated allowing the taste of the sea food to come through instead of just tasting the coating/breading like a lot of places on the mainland do. Loved the atmosphere, the staff was friendly & attentive. Have to say that it was the best ending to a great Hawaiian trip. Much Mahalo to Auntie Jory for treating us to this gem.

When we arrived (after calling to make sure they were still serving new customers at 8:24pm to which we were told yes) from the moment we walked in the waitress rushed us to a table with a sigh, then asked for our order, to which we asked if we could have a moment to look at menu and then my hubby ordered a beer and I ordered a Virgin Pina Coloda and she actually asked me if I was sure I didn't want alcohol in it!?! Needless to say we ate as fast as we could and ended up getting to go boxes which we had to fill ourselves, and that's not the worst part. As we were leaving, behind us they were systematically shutting down ALL of the outside lights including the Large (Street Light types) overhead parking lot lights!! We Both had to turn the lighta on our phones so we didn't get injured or worse, as they had large cement markers for each individual spot. When an employee came outside to turn off their Main signage (being the last little bit of light left) the guy who was doing it noticed I was video recording (as well as my hubby using his camera light to navigate somewhat unsuccessfully) the employee asked why and I told him for a review. He got excited and said his name I then asked if he would please turn on the lights so we could get to our Rental car, which just so happened to be a MIDNIGHT BLUE in color, all we knew was that we parked by the entry into the parking area which happened to be on the opposite side to the Restaurant, The employee proclaimed somewhat jovial that he couldn't that the parking lights were on timers and it's "company Policy" that at 9:45pm all outside signage and lighting on the side, front and Parking be out "No acceptions". So if you go to Nico's make sure it's at least 2 hrs before 9:30 pm when they close

Atmosphere is what you would expect from a restaurant with live music. We were there before the music started so we can’t say anything about what to expect. We ordered uncle Nic’s poke nachos as an appetizer and they were delicious. A huge mound of tuna on a bed of fried wonton surrounded by 4 heaping servings of guacamole. For our main course we had the crab cake on butter lettuce and the jumbo shrimp scampi linguini. Both tasted good but the serving size of shrimp was much smaller than expected. For $29, it had only four large shrimp on a small bed of pasta, comparing this to the a plate load (10+ pieces) of shrimp for $17.50 from Giovanni’s food truck along the north shore the day before. The crab cakes came on a bed of iceberg lettuce and chopped beets. We also ordered the Thai chicken soup which was also delicious but we didn’t get to finish it because the poke nachos plate was so large. We actually ended up taking most of the food home because we were so full from the appetizer. We got a side of French fries, too, and it was larger than the shrimp entree. One other point, is the service was a little too fast. The soup came out at the same time as the entrees. Perhaps they were rushing to finish the dinner crowd before the live music started. The waiter was friendly and checked on our table the right amount of times. Would give 5 stars for his service alone and 3 for the...

We went here on a Sunday around 3 PM for a late lunch and lookingto catch the SNF game. We have heard okay things about Nicos and have been wanting to go. We walked in the door to no hostess or anyone working their counter near the front. The dining section was closed but the bar area had some people. There was no sign indicating to wait or swat yourself so we awkwardly stood there for a good while and a few employees looked at us without saying anything. We finally just sat at the closest table to the door in the bar section. After a long 5 minutes, the bartender said the server would be right with us. After another5 minutes, a server came and greeted a table of people that came in after us. She made her way over and took our drink order (it was happy hour so that was nice). She came quickly back with our drinks and asked if we wanted to order. My husband started to order a burger from the menu we were handed for her to tell us that it’s only appetizers until 5 PM. Would have love to know that before ordering drinks as we were very hungry. We decided to try a few appetizers while we finish our drinks. As the food came out, not by our waitress, the server carrying the food danced around with our food with another employee right in front of us, laughing. The food was okay, nothing impressive. We asked for our check and left. Very disappointed in the lack of service and...
