Today was my first time trying out McAlisters off Hwy K in Ofallon. I placed my order over the phone, to go, arrived in time to watch my order being made, which was how I unfortunately know the food was handled. A big and nasty, extra meat, that I watched the counter boy and girl argue with the younger boy about how "it's not extra meat" and they slide the sandwich back and forth across the counter THREE times arguing and on the 3rd slide it disappears behind the counter. Counter boy obviously frustrated asks counter girl to "check the other one and make sure they atleast got that right" and girl proceed to BARE handed touch my sandwich and pick it apart layer by layer to make sure its correct, which it was but was missing the pickle it's supposed to come with which I was really looking forward to, and had a total of one slice of tomato, cut in half about the size of a silver dollar, and the girl on the phone hadnt put extra bacon like I requested but since I wasnt charged not a big deal, I'll live with it. Both counter girl and boy are now just standing until a female manager comes into the kitchen and asks "what are you guys waiting on" to the reply "the big and nasty they are supposed to be putting extra meat on", after some back and forth here comes the sandwich, then some more back and forth about the missing gravy with "it doesnt come with it" "yes it DOES", and they finally got it together, with what is a pretty sad looking sandwich with a sprinkle of cheese as you can see in the picture. Register girl hands me the bag and is like "Have a great day" and a reply of "Im supposed to have two large drinks" which she hands me, and I'm left struggling and juggling a large togo bag and 2 large drinks, and nobody offered to help or hold the door thou there was 3 younger girls just standing there. Get back to the house to find the sad salad I paid an extra $2.79 for and not a crouton in sight. Paid $30.25 for my first trip to McAlisters to be be highly disappointed in both service and food for an establishment that was just recently opened and should have their...
Read moreI hadn't been to McAlisters in a couple of years before stopping in today for lunch. I used to go quite often, pre-covid times.
I liked not having to order at the register. I had downloaded the app and ordered from my table. That was nice.
The food though... pretty abysmal. The person with me ordered a bowl of broccoli cheddar soup. It was $6.99 for less than a cereal bowl sized serving. It was served with no bread, no crackers, nothing. Tasted ok, I was told. But WAY overpriced for the portion.
I had a pick 2. "Half" Cuban sandwich, and half order of nachos. The half sandwich was a complete joke. It looked like a toddler sized sandwich. It was literally 3-4 inches long. I put it in the palm of my hand (I have small hands) and it was the size of a large slider. Taste-wise, it was ok. But it's advertised as being served on a baguette, and it DEFINITELY was not. It was served on what seemed like a very soft hoagie roll. It was extremely disappointing.
The nachos... were nachos. Nothing spectacular. But definitely more chips than toppings. And the chips were fairly stale. Pretty underwhelming overall.
The sweet tea is still amazing. But at $2.99 is pretty expensive.
The girl that brought our food seemed irritated overall. I thanked her twice, for bringing our food and then my drink, and each time she replied "no problem" as she walked away. A "you're welcome" would have been nice. Maybe a training opportunity there? The girl that picked up our dishes afterwards was very pleasant though.
Overall, a very "MEH" experience. And due to the inflated prices and shrinking portions, we will probably not be back. Unfortunate. Also, due to the item descriptions not matching the item served.
Money is tight for everyone these days due to rising prices on literally everything. If you're going to charge exorbitant prices, you need to make sure the food and the service are worth it.
Edited to add pic. Look at the size of the sandwich compared to the 2 tablespoon container of sour cream. The sandwich was literally the size of a 2...
Read morePlenty food to share with your loved ones. Love their sweet tea and lemonade. We get the big nasty with the gravy on the side... and ask for a large portion of pickles... that could be a meal in and of itself, for me. The kids are nice enough. I slipped trying to stand up and since I am already handicapped because one of my legs does not work the way it should it could have ended in disaster because I had just had a full knee replacement. Falling completely would have ended up with an ambulance, emergency room visit, and probably emergency surgery... when we asked for the manager the kids took their time getting him. He apologized but said they can't do anything more with the slippery floors. In that case, we won't be back. I can't take a chance and I am still young. I would hate to have a fall 40 years down the road when your bones are brittle. The least they should do is make you aware before you even enter the store. And then put mats down so their customers are less likely to fall getting in or out of...
