Amazing owners and fantastic food. Be aware that what they decide to make for the day is what you are getting. From what I can tell that is usually Cashew Chicken Spicy, Cashew Chicken Regular, and Beef-filled wontons. This is not a Panda Express-style establishment. If you are on the fence about spicy, I would go for it. It did not burn my taste buds off. Cash Only, which is fine with me, but make sure you have enough cash on hand for the food + tax. There are plenty of ATMs close by. They are only open M-F 10AM to 2PM. I work outside of Oak Ridge, so it took about two-months before I had a day off that allowed me to make it by closing time. But it was so worth it. The inside is small, so you will most likely want to take it to go or eat outside. My dad was in the Air Force so I was blessed to see much of the world at a young age. I say this because in South Korea, Japan, Thailand, etc..... this type of small setup is extremely common. In the United States it is more of a rarity unless in a major city like New York, Chicago, etc. I personally love it, as it is unique and not the standard cookie-cutter restaurant setup. However, if you are looking for a familiar sit-down table-service experience, you would want to give it a shot another time. My favorite part of the experience was talking with the owners, very genuine and...
Read morePlease eat here!!! They do cashew chicken and beef wontons, and you can make the cashew chicken spicy if you’d like. There’s not a menu, just a main dish that is done RIGHT. Everything is made to order and fresh. Miss Betty makes the wontons that morning and they have a nice, subtle sweetness to them. There’s a little bar seating area inside (about 5 stools total) where you watch them make the food and interact with the owners, so a lot of business is take-out. If you have a small group and the time to hang out inside, Miss Betty and her husband are very sweet. It’s a homey atmosphere, the food is wonderful, it’s very affordable, and the owners are wonderful. We paid about $40 for 3 dishes, 2 orders of wontons, and 3 bottles of water. The only drawback is the hours-they’re only open on weekdays. Also nothing is vegetarian if that’s something that’s important to you. So if you find yourself out and about during the week in Oak Ridge, you should...
Read moreI've been going to the Magic Wok for over a decade, and Miss Betty has never let me down. My order really hasn't changed in years: Spicy with 2 egg rolls. She'll even spice your order up well beyond the standard level if you bring in your own peppers, she may even have some stocked for those of us who like SPICY food. I had my first ever Ghost pepper at Magic Wok. I asked for as spicy as she could make it, she asked if I was sure, and I responded yes ma'am. She walked over to her fridge, took out a bag of peppers, and told me to pick one, they were all ghost peppers but I didn't know that at the time. I handed over the pepper, she ground it up in her mortar and pestle and threw it in the special wok for those truly adventurous eaters. It was amazing. HOT AF, but amazing. She truly has the secret sauce. If you live in Oak Ridge and you haven't tried it, shame on you. If you're just passing through, don't miss out, you'll be...
