Read moreI was in Fort Lauderdale for some business and I wanted to have some breakfast before my flight out of Miami. The American Coffee Shop was on my way there, and it came highly rated per Google.
The restaurant is in a small strip mall and a bit smaller than I expected. There weren't any issues on a day I visited as the restaurant was maybe 50% filled. Parking isn't a problem.
I ordered their Traditional Egg Breakfast # 2. I settled on two eggs, bacon, home fries and an English muffin. I chose a cafe con leche for my drink. The food was cooked to my liking. The potatoes were excellent, not over cooked, burnt or dry. I had never had a cafe con leche before, so I was also pleasantly surprised with its taste. I did add a small amount of sugar to it, but other than that it was good.
The staff was pleasant, and I presume it was the owner that went to each patron to say hi and ask how their day was going. You don't see that too often, so it's a welcome change. I would re-visit if I'm ever back...

So I asked how much they were and they told me they were $13.99. When I ordered the omelette, she offered us three choices of bread and we chose the Cuban bread. Which was stale. I also asked for some salsa on the side which they ended up charging me four dollars for for a tiny little container of salsa. When the bill came instead of 1399 for each omelette, they charged us $16 for each omelette. When I asked about the price, she told me the bread is extra, which there was no mention of. The food was good. But the smell in the place is overwhelming and I had to wash my hair and my clothes when I got home because of a lack of ventilation and the fryer and the grill and all that. Service was good. the people they were very nice , but the price was over the top, and I felt like they were not transparent with...
