I walked in to G&W's this evening to have food, drinks and play pool with a friend. I hadn't been for a long time. I also had my licensed service dog of 6 years who was wearing his vest with me. As we entered the bartender yelled very loudly at me that they have a kitchen and my dog is not allowed. The bar fell silent. I stated that we were not going into the kitchen and that what he, the bartender, is legally able to ask me is, "Is that a service dog and..." He (the bartender, interrupted and asked what service does he provide. Clearly, he knew what he was allowed to ask according to the ADA regulations, otherwise he would not have known the second question to ask. Being yelled at and humiliated in front of all the patrons in the bar completely ruined my evening. I only stayed and spoke back to the bartender instead of leaving and calling my attorney because my friend really wanted to play pool. So I purchased the cheapest drinks I could (soft drinks) so my friend could at pool. I was hungry but refused to spend more money at an establishment that treated a disabled person with a service dog in such a demeaning manner. I was embarrassed and upset. Nothing like going somewhere to have an enjoyable evening and getting yelled at and humiliated in front of a bunch of people I dont know at 5:45 in the evening. What a great way to start my weekend off right, thanks Johnnie. I appreciate your getting my drinks and slamming my change on the counter and treating me the every patron dreams of...

Had one of the best chicken sandwiches I ever ate, and discovered that the locals have been keeping this place a secret ( I understand fully), The recommend that if you go here, try anything coming out of their kitchen. It is real Americana bar food, but high end. Now, onto my regular review......
Working class Watering Hole owned and operated by local people who like local people who appreciate local people that I mention local people? Cheap drinks, good company, pool tables, a jukebox and people who won't call the cops if you have an occasional smoke outside. What more could you ask for? Don't Front, you know you need a place like this. When it's time to get down and dirty and have some hard drinking fun, or sit down next to some true Burly men and women and learn what the working-class Oakland experience is all about, stop by. You won't be...
Read moreThis is the best place in the world. The bartenders are nice and funny, the bar is clean, the customera are diverse and friendly, drinks are a fair price, and you get a free beer back with every shot!
The guy below is incorrect in his statement. First, there is indeed an ATM that the bar charges $1.50 service fee to use. You can take out $10 to $60. They give you the money out of the register WITH A RECEIPT. Typically they deduct the cost of your drinks from your desired withdrawal amount. YOU GET ALL THE CHANGE.
Second, the bartender is NOT a waitress. He or she are working hard to take orders without making customers wait for long periods of time (that is the concept at this place), making those orders, changing TV stations, washing dishes and putting them away, being friendly to customers, cleaning up after customers, running the ATM cards through the machine, and many other things...all while putting a smile on their...
