Connoisseur of Indian food and have dined at Jaipur restaurant four times now for lunch and dinner.. This is definitely Americanized Indian foods but still damned delicious! Very happy with the food and the service - my kind of place....! And I got few comments - they have Macchli Amritsari - Macchli is fish and hopefully from the big Indian Ocean - and Amritsar in inland - they must have a very long fishing rod to catch the fish! Also the Jhinga Mumtaz - Jhinga is shrimp and Mumtaz is a womans name - what is this a girly shrimp dish? Tandoori Jhinga - now if this is what I think it is - it must be absolutely fabulous - the best I have tasted is at Kiran's in Houston. The Butter Chicken is excellent and kicks your butt right into Chicken Heaven. Then there is "Mass Ro Mazzo" - these guys need to figure out whether they are going for eats after a Catholic Mass of it is a relative of the Jewish Mazzo ball - or perhaps both. Then there is the Marwari Chicken - Marwadi's are vegetarians what are they doing cooking chicken? These must be underground Marwaris. What is Hyderabadi Biryani from South India doing sneaking into Jaipuri restaurant. from North India? Seems rather suspicious to me. I have not tried the Lobster Tikka Masala yet - but if it is anything as good as the other tikka masala's, then the lobster must have crawled into the tikka curry as his last wish. The mango lassi is good to the last drop and the Gulab Jamun and Raas Malai are to die for... I like the late night desserts too - even though they close at 10 PM that's enough time to run down and get half a dozen desserts to go for family & friends. If you are an alien contemplating an alternate universe of taste you can't go wrong landing yourself at this place. I love the exotic foods these guys have bought to Lee Hwy and Jaipur is a cut above the rest without being all that expensive. The only complaint is that I am getting to be an Indian...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem! Located in the ground floor of an unassuming mixed use (apartment complex with some retail on the ground floor), you have to know about this place to find it. You also do not expect the warmly and nicely decorated restaurant space that greets you as soon as you walk through the boring steel and glass commercial doors.
For the past several years, I have only visited this restaurant for its weekend lunch buffet, so any information I have about their menu items is wholly out of date. It's definitely worth talking about the buffet, though.
You can find a cheaper Indian lunch buffet, but this one offers a great selection of dishes and does not stint on the protein options! The buffet is laid out to progress through salads and a variety of sauces/toppings, to a signature item (e.g., tandoori chicken; during my latest visit, it was a spicy shrimp dish), to a series of "served over rice" dishes that vary from visit to visit. You'll typically find multiple vegetarian options, as well as chicken and lamb options. Tableside (plain) naan is provided on an all-you-can eat basis.
The food quality is very good. I get an intense comfort food rush every time I take a bit of some of their saag or tomato sauce-based dishes. The food is mildly spiced for an American palate, but additional spices are available upon request.
The buffet also includes two simple but satisfying desserts. Drinks are not included.
I wouldn't normally comment on the quality of service at a buffet, but the wait staff was extremely attentive and friendly--dirty plates were whisked away as soon as they appeared abandoned. The restaurant owner/manager also circulates regularly to ask patrons if everything is to their satisfaction.
Parking is ample, but can be a bit confusing. There are separate parking areas to the left and to the right of the restaurant. Most people generally park on...
Read moreMasterfully dull food - almost no spice in anything on the buffet. People rate this place highly because the food is plentiful, but I am one of those minoritarians who prefers quality to quantity. Silly me. But I wouldn't be writing this review if that were all. Dull food is only the beginning of the joys of this place. No, what earns it that mark of my especial esteem is the bad service. When directly asked, the waiter informed me there was no pickle in the restaurant. Now, if you are a typical gora from Missoura, you may be unfamiliar with the culinary and digestive joys of desi pickle but I don't go without it and this place was without it. Or at least I was told it was. (I have my doubts.) But wait - there's more. I then asked, by that point in some desperation, if the good waiter might bring me some kind of spicy sauce or hot pepper flakes. And he said they had nothing whatsoever. Then, on my way out, after paying $42 for two people to have, among the merely mudane items on the menu, majestically insipid overcooked lamb stew (don't believe the sign that says curry) which even my 14-year old son, who eats large quantities of nearly everything, found inedible, I told the gal who looked like management that a bit more spice would be nice, and she waved me out like I was a dalit. Well, folks, I am somewhat unclean from that experience and it is just karma that I give a special mention to bindi Cindy who sits there counting the gringos' money and giving Indian food and service a bad name. But for all of you whom I can save from this experience, hey, this is Fairfax - there are many good Indian cuisine options! Do yourselves a favor and try almost any one of them over than this...
