This place was a major disappointment.I checked out the menu online and saw the generally positive reviews and hoped to add a new restaurant to my Ocala rotation. Sadly, it won’t be Latino Y Mas.
The good: Even with runaway inflation, the prices here were fair and right in line with their competition.3 entrees and chips appetizer came in at a touch over $52. Not bad. Thats better than a lot of fast casual restaurants. The service. Our waiter was polite, attentive and courteous. He was busy, but had time for refills and checking on our satisfaction. No problem with the service.
The not-so-good: Everything else. It’s an hispano-centric restaurant, so the appetizer is chips and salsa. The salsa was a preview of the bland, flavorless meal we were in store for.Super watery, with no bite or seasoning, the salsa set the lowest bar we’ve seen in our journeys around Ocala. The chips were dry, tough and shockingly flavorless. There were plenty of them, but more of a bad thing doesn’t add up to a good thing. Avoid. If you’re on any kind of diet, don’t throw your calorie count away on these chips and salsa.
We had the chimichanga. It comes with rice, refried beans.lettuce, sour cream and some cheese. It was as tasteless as a Howard Stern morning show. No discernible flavor complex…Just some dry, tough ground beef in what felt and tasted like a Hot Pocket from the microwave. Not crispy, just tough/chewy like it had been nuked and tossed on our plate. The rice was, like everything else we had, kinda dry, with no overall reson for being except to fill up part of our plate. All in all, its a good thing that our memories are not as good as they used to be-we wanted to forget this entree as quick as possible and the lack of quality here makes it easy.
We didn’t even consider dessert. If it was a bland as everything else,it wasn’t worth the effort.
One more gripe-I wouldn’t go back here for another reason-The booths are super cramped and uncomfortable. Rock hard seats and a table that can’t be moved or adjusted means that if you’re tall or hefty, you’ll feel like you’re having dinner at the county jail. That, in addition to the run down look and feel of the place make us anxious to go out for a nice Mexican meal again...
Read moreThis place used be a favorite of mine for Latin American food. The quality of the food has gone down & the taste is significantly different from the last time I was here about 4 or 5 months ago. I was born in Colombia and grew up in California. I love food and I can appreciate good Colombian and Mexican food when I see it. First off, the empanadas had no taste, they were very dry on the outside and undercooked on the inside. The "Aji", which is a Colombian staple, was absolutely terrible. It's one of the most simple recipes and I don't understand how you ruin it so badly. It had zero flavor, and the most important ingredient, peppers? Where are the peppers??? It was watered down cilantro with huge chunks of green onions. Even my husband, who is American looked at it and asked me what it was. We were both looking forward to the empanadas and were extremely disappointed. The only thing that was decent about our meal tonight was the meat. Everything else was very bland. What happened to the flavor? This place is starting to become more like a Tex-mex or chain restaurant than the more authentic and higher quality place it used be. I understand you want to appeal to the the average person and the "masses" but will cost you. I also noticed your menu is very different and limited. Majority of your Mexican dishes are nice not even considered authentic Mexican dishes. This place used to stand out from places las el toreo & now you are in the same category. I simply won't pay these prices for average food. I would consider chipotle before I had any of your so called...
Read moreBeen going to this restaurant for years but after our experience today will not be going back. It started with salsa being extremely salty, then salty refried beans & salty ground beef in Taco & husband's fish tacos smelled terrible & were greasy. They forgot to bring me my refried beans until I reminded them. I told my server about the salt problem but they did nothing about any of the food issues so I paid for food that wasn't edible. I also told staff at front desk & asked to speak to manager but nothing was done by anyone & they their adatude was none caring. So again as we were leaving I told them about my experience & manager not showing up regarding my concerns. The girl at register said one manager was leaving as other manager had just got there but still never bothered to go tell him so we could let him know our bad experience. I also ordered a kids taco meal along with my other food & the server said the manager won't let anyone under 12 order from kids menu even though I had already ordered a full meal & appetizer but then came out with kids taco meal that was too salty to eat. In the end I shouldn't have had to pay for all the items that were too salty. They obviously don't care about the quality of their food or if you'll ever return. They all seemed to care less & thought nothing about charging us for food we couldn't eat. Our bill was $53.00 for bad food. My husband is feeling sick now from the bad...
