My husband & I had been looking forward to our first pizza at Mellow Mushroom. We arrived around 5:30p, and although the patio was full, that was okay-we wanted to be seated inside. After a few minutes, we were seated [the restaurant was nearly empty], and after a few more, our server came to take our drink order. We like to eat & drink healthy, so we order water. It all went downhill from there. She came back in about 15 minutes with our water, it tasted terrible, rancid even. We didn't complain, we just decided not to drink it. We were perusing the menu & asked for a few minutes. We put in our order for salad & a large house special pizza. We noticed a lot of people standing outside the wall of windows. We thought they were enjoying the weather & art. No, they were WAITING to be seated INSIDE. It made absolutely NO sense that they waited so long to end up being seated at the clean, EMPTY tables that were exactly opposite where they had stood for half an hour before coming inside. The tables all around us filled quickly. The music was so loud we couldn't have a conversation. Over 45 minutes later, our waitress is passing by, glances our way, and has a recognition/surprised look on her face. I stopped her to ask about the salad that hadn't yet arrived, but before I could ask, she hurriedly said, "Your pizza should be right out!" and she started to head back in the direction she had JUST come from... okay?? Before she got too far, I said, "Excuse me, what about our salad?" She returned to our table and said, "Oh, I completely forgot to put the order in, my bad, but they can do that real quick, it should only take a minute!" Then she practically ran off. It was at least 15 minutes before our salad arrived. The guys sitting at the table behind me had already received their pizza, eaten it, and were leaving. Looking around, the people that arrived AFTER us were already eating pizza. Still determined to enjoy our evening out, we didn't complain. We took two bites of our salad, and a guy brought us our pizza. We hurriedly ate the salad, and each got a slice of pizza. We were starving & the big moment had finally arrived! The crust was burned, the pizza bland, flavorless except for the bacon. Then our waitress arrives check in hand, says we'll be needing a box, and promptly brings one back. WOW, we had been here almost 2½ hours, mostly WAITING with great anticipation only to be forgotten, highly disappointed, and nearly pushed out the door as soon as our food arrived. Needless to say, we were not happy. For a $40 check, we tip $10 for good service...$20, if the service is great! She completely forgot about us and got nothing. We will...
Read moreYesterday my family went to mellow mushroom to celebrate my niece 12th birthday. We were sat promptly and the server was very attentive to our needs.
Two people from our party didn’t like their calzones. They told our server as soon as he came back to the table and did not eat any more of the calzone. The server advised that he would get his manager to remove the calzones from the bill.
When it became time to pay the calzones were still on the bill and the manager had not came to the table. So we asked the server again if he could get the manager to remove the items that we did not like and had not ate.
The manager refused to come to our table when our server asked her to. The server went to her multiple times. Our server was black and we noticed how nervous he was to go to Dawn. However, we saw him go to her multiple times. It was not until we asked a white server to get the manager, that she decided to come over to the table. The manager name is Dawn.
When Dawn arrived at the table, she was very aggressive. She walked up to my mom and was an inch from her face. My mom had to lean back to create distance between the two of them.
Dawn did not greet the table, her first response was “why didn’t you tell us sooner?” “What food didn’t you like?” “You should’ve told me sooner, so we could make something else” My brother in law had to advise her that she was being hostile . Even after my brother in law advised her of her actions, she did not apologize.
As customers we are allowed to not like something that is prepared at a restaurant. If we do not eat the food after tasting it, there shouldn’t have been an issue.
Also, the way that Dawn treats her staff and the way that she treated us , it is evident that she does this daily. She was very comfortable with treating people poorly. I cannot confirm if it was a race thing that led to the mistreatment of our party and the server or if she genuinely doesn’t desire to provide good customer service to anyone. However, this was our first time at mellow mushroom and we will not...
Read moreMy wife and daughter and I went to the mellow mushroom restaurant in downtown Ocala this evening. I put my name & phone number in with the hostess and was told there would be a 45 minute wait. I was told I would receive a text when table was ready. My wife ran to get chocolates at nearby Ocala Chocolate. When she got to the restaurant she checked in with the same hostess. Asked her about how much longer. I didn't know what time I checked in. She said it's only been about 25 minutes so bit longer to go. We sat outside waiting with other people. Large groups were being seated but not smaller parties. We relocated to inside and then we see people who came after us being seated! We were right in front of the hostess table too. So we asked how come we aren't being called. The hostess who I gave my name to pretended like she didn't even recognize us. I was particularly angry and had words with her. Other hostess asked what happened and they said at first they didn't have my name or number. People came in after us felt bad for us even and said can't believe you are not seated we saw you so long ago. Nobody offered us a table ever. Nobody apologized, and in my opinion because my I got angry they became apathetic. My wife and daughter left but I stayed to speak to a manager. Manager blamed the texting technology. They text you andI never got a text. My wife had even checked in person for a status check and was told we had been waiting 20 minutes. So, how can they not find us There were 2 hostess at the desk, one of them should go out and call names or get a pa system. Or invest in beepers. The manager said there was nothing they could do about what happened and that the system has gone down before. No offers of any compensation or even regret. We will not be going back, although they may not stay in business that long if they do not get their priorities straight. The hostess should have called the manager as soon as she realized she made a mistake and...
