Lunchbox Waretown — Restaurant in Ocean Township

Today August 10, 2022, I stopped by the "Lunch Box" a Deli that has been bringing in high praise for their great hoagies, but breakfasts as well. As I walked in, I noticed that the front door was boarded up and a temporary door was installed. I asked the owner and he explained to me that, on August 3, a motor vehicle backed out, hit a utility pole, and then accelerated right into the building. When the fire department arrived, they found a Honda had struck the front of the business causing damage and shifting of a load-bearing wall. The Lunch Box had to temporarily close. The Lunch Box on 9 th. Anyway, I went in and ordered the time-tested Pork roll, egg, and cheese (PEC) on a Kaiser roll. After a short wait, my breakfast sandwich came out all wrapped up in foil. It smelled yummy. I went up to the Dunkin and got an iced coffee and sat in my jeep and enjoyed the best pork roll egg and cheese sandwich I have ever eaten, and mind you I have had plenty. The roll was soft but had a great crust, the egg was plentiful, and the amount of pork roll was OMG just breathtaking all covered by a creamy melted cheese. I will be coming back to this deli for sure. The prices are a bit high at $17.99 for a whole hoagie, but if it is anything like the PEC sandwich, it will be well worth it. I wrote a bad review over a year ago and I have to change it based upon what has been improved. I ranted before about the owner being grumpy, long waits, mistakes and other issues. I left a 4 star review but then the owner called me out and I changed it to 1 star, somehow that got deleted. The hoagies and sandwhiches are incredible and some of the best around. I heard about the owner from some friends at my marina and everyone had good things to say. I went in numerous times since my bad review and I cant believe how many things have changed and improved with the service and operations, no need to change anything about the food but you better have CPR Cherry Pepper Relish now :-) ! I spoke to the owner (sorry brother, dont know your name) several times and he did not know it was me and was always very cool and even spoke about winter flounder last week, thats what I want, great food and cool people talking about fishing and boating. Family owned sub shop, portions are huge and good quality meats. Prices are about what you'd expect from a sandwich shop. The lunch box grabs a local crowd as evidenced by the familiarity between the workers/ owners and their clientele. There is a small seating area off to the side of the counter and they bring your food to you and bus the table themselves. While I was there one of the owners brought food out to a table and asked if anyone wanted fries. He had made a few too many and rather then throw them out or sit on them he offered them up. Most places would put them under a heat lamp but he believes in making them fresh for each order. You wouldn't see that with a chain restaurant.
