Don bolos is new to odessa, figured we give it a try, not a good experience, wait was about 8 mins and only a few tables actually had customers so they weren't busy, got seated we looked at menu and waited for drink order and ordered an appetizer took about 8 mins for drinks to arrive due to server running food, host asked if we had ordered we said no, also bartender asked we replied no, finally server took order, food came out and what a joke my son ordered a kids burger that's a joke I replied is that a slider so damn small not worth 10 dollars, wife ordered flautas looked like a huge mess, me and my other son ordered tacos and when we saw those I really was surprised especially for the price In a little cast iron dish 7 little stripes of carne asada on one and ribeye the other, a 2 oz souffle of guacamole tons of onions to make it look like there was a lot of steak I understand the whole concept of less is more but when your paying premium price you should get a better portion, a food truck gives better tacos then this place, also they sent out 3 cold ass corn tortillas for each order, nasty!! they gave a cup of beans that were burnt and you could smell and taste them, chorizo mac and cheese definitely cheap quality very disappointing coming from a so call high end mexican restaurant thay supposedly has a actually chef, and there's nothing authentic about it I've been to Mexico many times and food way better then here, the chef needs to go to Mexico learn the culture and how to cook properly because this was a horrible experience and way to overpriced. I definitely will not recommend this place to...
Read moreRemarkable, authentic Mexican, with superb fresh ingredients and a seasonally rotating menu. The owner/chef came out and described his concept for the menu, which is a representational tour of cuisine characteristic of the various regions of Mexico. Everything I had was so well executed and artfully presented (photographic evidence attached), and I must have eaten half the menu.
I've had so many empanadas, but the Oaxaca Cheese Empanadas in homemade fried blue masa were so light and crispy and flaky, perfectly contrasted with the rich, gooey cheese and mushroom interior ... I've never had anything like them.
The whole menu, though, is designed with that same grounded inventiveness and balance of flavors and textures.
I sat at the bar, and Jenny and Luz were so friendly and helpful and attentive, I couldn't want for anything.
I might not be able to make it back here again, but of all the restaurants near Odessa/Midland, this was worthy of being my one shot.
Oh! For those who like to celebrate, you'll love what happens when a table orders the special flight or a birthday ... let me just say the pyrotechnics might not even be legal in my...
