Mi Piaci Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in Odessa

Mi Piaci NON mi piace. Which basically means in Italian, I don't like it. I am Italian and a chef and former restaurant owner. The servers were all very friendly and lovely and sweet and kind. Although it took a little longer than it should have to come.back to check on the table. The atmosphere was okay the Decor was nice. But the food, at least what I got, was not okay. And I saw other plates of pasta going by that would have fed a family of four. First of all the prices are fairly steep even at lunch. I had the eggplant parmesan which was more than $20. I received a serving big enough for three people. The eggplant was barely to be found under WAY too much cheese, and a HUGE portion of spaghetti was on top of everything literally drowning it. This meant that the eggplant was soaked in sauce and cheese and literally SLIMY. The pasta was enough for FOUR people!! This is ridiculous! In Italy portions are small which is probably why Italians are not as overweight as Americans even though they eat a lot of carbs. Pasta is a first plate and it's small followed by the second plate which is the protein or whatever the main would be called. The sauce was okay but definitely not up to par and, in my opinion, too many spices in it again. Marinara is simple and straightforward. But here it was thick and almost tasted like it was out of a jar. This is typical Italian-American type of food and Americans have no idea that it is not Italian and should they ever go to Italy they will be disappointed not to find this stuff or whatever you want to call it in Italy. It's a shame but I should have gone to Olive Garden I probably would have fared better and that isn't saying much. I'm sorry but I would not go back. Absolute despicable and disgusting to have been treated so disrespectfully in a restaurant establishment.. In all my years of working, managing, and enjoying restaurants all over the world, i never thought I'd see the day where servers and managers would do such an outrageous act.. We were having an amazing time on our Thursday night- food was amazing- however during our conversation- me and my wife were talking about something in private about other people- not even us, and a little girl server that was not taking care of us, decided to say we were being inappropriate.. I was actually very shocked, so I said excuse me let me speak to your manager, this is not ok.. I then proceeded to manager, and explained to the manager that I didn't appreciate being confronted in such a rude way from someone that wasn't even a part of my table or serving me- and the manager then started arguing with my wife .. At this point, I'm in total disbelief because me and my wife are known and respected in establishments like this in the odessa/ midland area . So at this point I am like really seeing i will have to contact ownership and leave a review- i walk out the door and 4 servers as well as that same manager walk outside flipping us off, which i have pictures of by the way- and will be forwarding to the proper resources.. It's a shame and I do like this place, but after this disrespectful tirade I definitely will not be back, and neither will my family and wife ... I'm being so honest here. I LOVE their food. They are my favourite Italian restaurant. The owner is a very kind gentleman, however some of his staff needs to be removed from the establishment. The HOSTESS had to serve my table on a very sad unkind note, thanks to me and how we weren't getting service. NOBODY, and I mean nobody would serve us or ask us if we wanted even a drink for the first 20 minutes of being there. I had multiple servers walk past my table and look me in the eye even, and never ask if we'd been helped. The hostess was sweet enough to ask, and I told her straight and simple, I'm honestly about to leave if someone doesn't serve me. She called over the "best waiter" they had and in front of her I said no ma'am, I do Not want her, she has walked past me many times without stopping. I want someone who will do their job and wait on me. And she asked if I was okay with her being my waiter, and I said yes please. She was sweet, and shouldn't have had to do the waitresses job for her. She was very attentive to my table after that and was a much better server than ANYONE else in that restaurant, and that isn't even her job.
