The new owner sucks! See below
My Sister has worked for DioGuardi's Italian grocery store on Market and 30th for 16 years. 2 years ago a new owner bought it. Dondi has been "Momma DioGuardi" protecting the sauce, meatball, and sausage recipes for all of those years. I've had the opportunity twice in the past two years to chat with the new owner and, both times, he has mentioned his difficulty with managing "60 year old women." He fired Dondi last Thursday for taking the 2:00 break she missed because there were customers to take care of at 5:45 when there was no one in the store. HERE'S THE KICK....when he called her into his office, he told her he would throw her a 2 week "retirement" party where he would place a banner in front of the store announcing to all of her customers that she was retiring, or she could leave and collect unemployment. She told him she wasn't interested in retiring at which time he said "clock out and never come back." He clearly understood how many Cantonians LOVE Dondi. I see it every time we are out together and numerous people come to greet her. They need to know that her "sudden disappearance" has more to do with minimum wage people he can employ than her inflated $12.00 per hour rate!!! PLEASE SHARE!!! And, by the way, the reason for my rant tonight.....THEY CHALLENGED HER UNEMPLOYMENT APPLICATION. ...
Read moreI grew up in Canton and was always curious about this place. Came back to visit my folks recently and cannot believe I waited so long to come here. Service was great, friendly and helpful but not at all pushy. The place is bustling. We got fantastic fresh ingredients for quite reasonable prices and had an incredible meal. Frozen pizza dough was a big winner -- I often make my own and have tried lots of prepared dough, but this was by far the best I've had. Also got cauliflower parmesan gluten-free crusts for one family member who thought they were great. Grabbed perfect pizza cheese and high quality canned tomatoes for amazing sauce. The whole family had fun assembling (and of course eating!).
We also picked up some deli items and were very pleasantly surprised at the prices. Olives were fresh and delicious! Grabbed yummy cannolis, fresh pasta, and other bits as well. We treated ourselves to a lot after seeing the great selection, but the prices were very reasonable for the incredible quality, fresh ingredients, and great service. I would come back here every time for a fun, fresh, special...
Read moreI worked here for a week. Seemed cool at first. Then the manager made a schedule that had me working six days straight. Then the following day he made another schedule. I was off two weekdays a week. I asked him if there was anyway to work alternating weekends, since I saw so many people got put on no weekends since I started. He told me "It was too much work to make an alternating weekend schedule." And "What do I need to have the weekends off for?" I did explain that I am a mother of 5 kids, and have an elderly mother up in age. He proceeded to tell me it was too much work. My fiance did come and try to have a talk with him. He told my fiance that "nothing is fair." All I could think is you thought it was fair enough to give multiple people weekends off and make others work every weekend. He said that he could always find someone else. That's when I decided to let him and quit.(since in the interview I was not told I would be working every weekend, and closing everyday I worked.) We all got lives, and you should treat people like they do. Wish I could post...
