I AM AN IDIOT!! The old saying "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" applies here but what about fool me 5-6 times or more? Have me committed because of the saying that goes "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result"?
I've been to MULTIPLE Dicky's. ALL OF THEM AT LEAST BAD, SOME SIMPLY HORRIBLE. This time I dined in at the Dicky's on Penn and NW 36th St (roughly). It was a combo BBQ/Pizza place with 4-5 tables, definitely not inviting. Music was some Indian music as was the sole worker (definitely nothing against Indians here but play music for your customers not yourselves). I ordered a berf rib plate with fries and BBQ beans for my sides. 1)Beef rib was served drenched in sauce, no visible bark which is the best part of TX BBQ. There was ZERO smoke flavor (more on this below) and the meat had the flavor and texture of an oven cooked roast. The ONLY good thing I can say is it was tender. 2)Fries- not bad actually 3)BBQ Beans - why they were called BBQ Beans us beyond me. There was nothing BBQ about them. What they are is STRAIGHT BAKED BEANS OUT OF A CAN, not even doctored up to change the flavor up, or even cooked enough to caramelize. I'm literally talking about VanCamp's baked beans barely lukewarm. They may never have been heated up. Absolutely unforgivable for a BBQ place to serve these.
I was so disgusted with my experience (but not surprised after multiple experiences with Dicky's) I had to find out how someone could screw up BBQ so badly. I asked to see their smokers and asked what kind of wood they used. I acted as if I was impressed with the quality and wanted to be able to replicate at home. He was very reluctant to show me the equipment, where all the "magic" happens but I convinced him I wouldn't take pictures that I was a BBQ novice looking for pointers.
Dicky's on Penn SMOKERS = ORDINARY COMMERCIAL OVENS W/WOOD CHIPS! I couldn't believe (actually, I could) that a chain as large as Dicky's would lend their name to a place using an oven and wood chips and call it real Texas BBQ. It's no wonder my big beef rip had no smoke flavor and tasted like a oven cooked roast, it basically was one.
Dicky's Corporate must be DESPERATE for franchise fees. This place has no business calling itself Dicky's BBQ Pit. It's not BBQ in any sense of the word. But, it is a PIT.
Well, I'm sure I'll fall for it again in the future. I'm sure I'll be craving BBQ and the word on the sign will lure me in, maybe it will be different, maybe it will be good and smokey. But, we know better, at least by now we should. Maybe it's time to get fitted for that white jacket with the extra long sleeves that tie...
Read moreTerrible experience â avoid this place! We ordered two sandwiches and fries online, and when my husband picked up the food, we were immediately disappointed. The meat in both sandwiches was ice cold, and the portion size of the fries was ridiculous â you get more in a small McDonalds fry. The sandwiches themselves were tiny and loaded with onions, barely any meat.
We paid over $30 for this, and it absolutely wasnât worth it. My husband went back into the store with the food to request a refund, but the manager refused to remake the order or issue a refund. Frustrated, he threw the food away â which is exactly where it belonged.
To make things even more confusing, thereâs a âPizza Zoneâ sign inside. Is this a Dickeyâs BBQ or a Pizza Hut? The whole experience was just bizarre.
This was our first â and definitely last â visit to this location. Honestly, we wonât be going to any Dickeyâs BBQ again after this. Weâre contacting corporate and disputing the charges. Extremely...
Read moreStay Away!!! I wished that I would have read the other not so positive reviews before I patronized this place. As others have stated, this is Bangladeshi run duo restaurant concept. On the outside, it didn't appear as your typical Dickeys Barbeque Pit location, which made me go hum, but since I'd already driven there, I proceded. I ordered a 2 meat meal with brisket and turkey, and mac and cheese and fried okra. The only decent thing was the fried okra. The portions were on the small side, and otherwise the turkey breast seemed deli-bought and bland, and the mac and cheese was despicable; it seemed like just some food coloring poured over bland noodles, the worst restaurant mac and cheese ever. Also, my soda was very watered down, including the refill. I do not recommend this place, as it seems the operators have no clue of what they are doing, or they do know what they're are doing, and basically ripping customers off that expect a typically decent Dickey's Barbeque...
