My family and I were out and about and decided to stop at Empire Slice in the Arts District of OKC. It turned out to be a fantastic choice! We had tried a noodle place first, but they only served pork, and then we considered JK’s, which felt a bit too upscale for our young kids. So, we ended up at Empire Slice, and it was a delightful experience!
I even bumped into an old childhood friend there, which made it feel like fate. We’ve been to Empire Slice before, but this time the atmosphere felt even better. We ordered the 28-inch pizza with two flavors: the “Joezilla” with roasted garlic sauce, BBQ drizzle, chicken, bell peppers, and onions—absolutely delicious! And we also tried the “Fungus Among Us,” which had truffle oil and mushrooms. That was probably my favorite pizza ever!
They even brought us three different sauces since we couldn’t decide, and our waiter was super friendly. I even joked about having an avocado in my pocket for some healthy fats, and he laughed along with us. I topped the “Fungus Among Us” with the avocado and a bit of house-made ranch, and it was amazing!
The music was at a perfect level, and we loved checking out all the wall art. The vibe was very kid-friendly despite being in the arts district. Plus, there’s a cool deal: if you get a tattoo of their logo, you get 50% off pizza till death do you part! How awesome is that?
Thank you, Empire Slice, for an awesome night. We’ll...
Read moreMy family and I probably interact with this location 4-5 times a year. We mostly do take out. The pies are VERY LARGE so we typically will do one pie and do half and half. 3 people take awhile to finish an order. We enjoy the unique ingredients. The pink sauce is a must!
If we dine-in it is mostly because we are entertaining out-of-state guests and we feel it is a unique enough establishment and a good fit at the Plaza. Rarely do we get a seat right away so be prepared to wait. The staff will do whatever it takes to make sure you don't starve.
The parking is tough so plan to walk a few minutes aways. Not a deal breaker especially to experience this location and the Plaze District.
With all that said, I will confess that if I didn't live down the street I probably would not frequent this location often. The food is delicious but there is nothing that I feel is amazing. The price point is sometimes tough for pizza even with unique combinations. It is these facts that really puts Empire less than a 4 star, but i rounded up.
Side note: The Pizza boxes will not fit any fridge I have seen. If you plan to eat leftovers then you will need to repackage your order.
They have changed locations through the years and their format too. I kinda miss the slices building where you could avoid the chaos of the main establishment to...
Read moreDuring my first experience at Empire I was under the impression it was owned and operated by the Dark Lord of the Sith. After further investigation I found out that was not the case. Unlike storm troopers these guys don’t miss. Simply put this place took two concepts and fused them together, being on shrooms and making great pizza. The result is wild recipes that will make you trip balls with every bite. Bonus points if you show up in November and get to experience the thanksgiving pizza. Seriously wild recipes, insanely great pizza. Super chill people with a really cool atmosphere. The inside of this place is what I imagine Alice in wonderland would have looked like if it took place in Austin Texas. Unlike your teenagers report card empire will not disappoint you. They are open until 11pm even on weeknights. This comes in handy when your wife doesn’t really want you to come home but you can’t be smelling like the bar because she will think you are a bastard and a cheater and then you will have to spend three weeks on the couch at Chad’s house again. I can’t guarantee empire will keep you off the couch but I can guarantee you’ll be a lot happier sleeping there after your belly is full of weird delicious pizza. You only lose if you don’t go. A place this good will make you wonder if Anakin really was the good...
