Oshiki Japan (Plaza District) — Restaurant in Oklahoma City

We visited this restaurant around 12:30–1:00 PM on a Saturday, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The restaurant was almost empty, with just one other table, yet getting our food was surprisingly slow, especially considering we were the only ones ordering.

We started with crab rangoons, but neither the sauce nor the rangoon tasted good, either together or individually. I ordered the Plaza Roll, and while I often eat similar rolls, this one tasted off, like fish water. The scallop was gummy and difficult to chew, and I couldn’t even finish one piece. My partner had the hibachi chicken, and while the chicken was okay, the rice wasn’t very good. The ginger dressing on the salad also tasted off. The only thing we somewhat enjoyed was the miso soup. Unfortunately, everything we ate felt like it had been frozen and reheated.

The waitress was very kind and understanding. When I mentioned the sushi tasted bad, she graciously removed it from our tab without hesitation, which we appreciated. In hindsight, we probably should have sent everything back, but we felt bad about doing so after already returning the sushi. However, all of the food was disappointing.

Came here about a month ago for dinner. The vegetable tempura was not good and oddly cut. It seemed as though they had taken pre-cut veggies for the hibachi dishes and then dumped them into the tempura batter. The tempura in general was thick and oily--two things tempura should not be. Tempura should be light, and you shouldn't notice the oil. The sauce on the side was mayo based and it didn't go well with the already oily tempura. The yellowtail sashimi I ordered was poorly cut. The sushi rolls looked unappetizing, and my husband didn't finish them. The side of rice was dry. The yakitori... wasn't yakitori. Also, the yakitori and the steak hibachi were drowned in the same vague soy-based sauce. I don't understand all these overwhelmingly positive reviews. Did we happen to eat on a day where everything failed? We left sad. Haven't been back since.

Service and atmosphere were good. Location is great. If only the food...

If I could describe this place in two words, it would be "mixed bag". The floors were sticky, the bathroom was gross and out of paper towels, and the chairs were odd. A bit too 'swap meet' for me. While they did have a good amount of decor, it felt like most of it was bought from Amazon or Temu. Something was off.

Now the food: the plating was actually good, with good presentation. Echoing other recent reviews, the temperature of the sushi was both hot and cold. The rice texture was off. Otherwise was pretty tasty and affordable.

The service was really good. Our waitress was kind and patient.

Bottom line: It feels like they are really trying to provide a good experience, but have some ground to make up. Won't be returning soon, but maybe in the future if they work on the food quality and cleanliness of...
