A brand new burger place in OKC— you’d think this idea had been done before, right? From onion burgers, to the staple burger on any Midwestern menu, to the McDonald’s down the street— we have lots of burgers. But none like this. Reading an article about the business I learned that the owner wanted a limited menu where items could be “perfected”. To me, this sounded noble. Oftentimes restaurants cram the menu with a myriad of choices in hopes one will be palatable to guests. This idea of perfection was higher thinking; it was art.
So, I was surprised to find a couple different burgers on the menu in addition to other sandwiches and dishes. However, I’m not complaining. I ordered the cheeseburger and my boyfriend ordered The Hot Hamburger. We had to order fries separately, as the dishes do not come with a side.
While we waited for our order I tried to choose a wine from the cocktail menu. Happily taken back by the choices, many of which I don’t often find in OKC, I asked for assistance in choosing. Along came someone who worked at the restaurant, ready to help me. Wine, even at a burger place, has to be chosen optimally. So to hear someone describe the wines and help me choose something outside of my comfort zone always sets the experience apart.
It was great, besides being corrected over my pronunciation of the wine when I asked about it. When you go, you’ll know what I mean. Despite this setback, I ordered the wine and graciously sipped on it until the food came out. It was a muggy summer day and this white wine was the perfect entrée for our piping hot meal that came next.
Burgers galore. Double patties and oozing cheese, I started digging in immediately. My boyfriend’s burger was open face on Texas toast and had gravy and fries mixed in, so I helped myself to that. We were a little disappointed at the serving size of the fries, because for $3 anywhere else we would have had a size to share. The fries were good, but similar to fries found elsewhere for less cost. On that note, several sauces were brought out to us at no extra charge. Sauces + fries = the only combo that matters. Sweet chile, bbq, and ranch were the perfect complement to our fries.
I devoured the burger. Ate the whole thing. Usually don’t eat that much meat but I hadn’t eaten all day and it was damn good.
So, go! Cozy atmosphere, attentive service, and good food make it a great addition to the Plaza and OKC. We’ll be going back to try the extensive list of cocktails and other menu items that...
Read morei read a review prior to going to this establishment stating the burgers here are some of the best in the area. i strongly disagree with that statement. burger is very average. my girlfriends black bean burger was just patty and mayonaise. my cheeseburger was extremely basic aside from the brioche bun and the patties were somewhat overly salty. in n out burgers are better than here and i would even say that the burgers here would compare less favorably than even a properly managed carls jr back in california. the sweet potato fries were delicious however and were better than the burgers in terms of taste. for the cheeseburger and black bean burger and an order of sweet potato fries the total was $26. they use toast tab which is a POS system that does not integrate with apple pay from my experience and thus this place does not accept apple pay. the price is high for the quality. even a down to earth establishment such as sids in el reno makes far better well nuanced burger than here. i had high expectations based on reviews and due to the fact that food smelled good in the bag. however i would not say this place makes the best burgers i have experienced more casual places in california that made much better burgers. i believe this place is a bar with food. my girlfriend was about to order a drink while waiting but the food was done while she was looking in the menu so we didnt order a drink and we cant really rate the cocktail here where it was noted there is an extensive menu of drinks. the sweet potato fries were great. the burgers were somewhat disappointing. the location is uber hipster being that it is located in the plaza district. parking can be limited due to being in the plaza district. however during off peak hours parking can be found...
Read moreGreat Burger joint on the Plaza! New State has a bunch of things going for them. They are tucked away on the East end of the Plaza with a subtle but professional appearance. When you walk in it feels like you have stepped into a New York City restaurant nestled between skyscrapers. There is exposed brick with relaxing paintings mounted along. They have managed to fit a fair number of tables in a relatively small space without feeling cramped or claustrophobic. Skylights provide great ambiance and the music is audible without being overwhelming. The atmosphere is clean and bustling with an appeal to professionals on the go who want a well-made meal. Speaking of the food, the menu is specific but with enough variety that it doesn't completely exclude those who don't prefer the main affair. They have a few sandwiches including a melt, a vegetarian Patty (that doesn't taste like cardboard) and a cheeseburger that is to die for. I strongly recommend adding their thicc cut bacon. It is an experience unto itself and really complements the cheeseburger well. Their fries are standard cut, light, and crispy. Their custom drink menu is on the pricey side, but they are all unique and worth trying. I am a huge fan of the Old Fashioned and their take provides a new flavor that keeps the fruity bite the drink is known for. They serve chicken thighs, steak frotes, and a salad as non-sandwich options, and their desserts include pie and a rootbeer float. This is the sort of place that I could make a weekly tradition. Energetic, friendly and professional I can't wait...
