I went to visit my son in Mustang , Oklahoma the first week in April and before I went down there I looked on Yelp for places that I wanted to try and Sherri's caught my eye. I love a good 50's Diner , but it has to have good food and I was not disappointed. If I lived in OKC or surrounding area I would definitely come here often. I also saw they have car shows here sometimes and I'm a car nut so I would come for those too.
We started out with the Onion Rings as an appetizer. They are HUGE , homemade and come with Ranch. They were so good and thick with 2 slices of onion in each ring. Definitely get these. My son got the Breaded Chicken Sandwich and it was also HUGE. I tried it and it was so good. I would come back here for one of those. It of course came with Fries or you can choose a different side like Potato Salad and such. I wanted breakfast so I got the Chicken Fried Steak , again HUGE , it took up a plate by itself. It was very good and I liked the Gravy. Some places the gravy taste of too much flour , but this had good seasoning and flavor.
I also had Scrambled Eggs , Home Fries , and a Biscuit and Gravy. You can get toast if you prefer. The amount of scrambled eggs was perfect , some places don't give you enough. The home fries had a good taste and had green peppers of some kind on top which I liked. The biscuit was homemade and big , but the flavor was just okay. The gravy that came with it tasted different to me than the gravy for the chicken fried steak , more plain , but that may be because it was on a biscuit and not the chicken fried steak. I don't know , but it just seemed to taste different , probably just me.
Our server was nice and checked on us several times and kept our drinks full. I hate it when I'm at a sitdown restaurant and have to try to get the servers attention to get our beverages refilled. The place was busy , but she gave great service and attention. The decor is so cool with all the 50's stuff on the walls , the Coca-Cola machines , old Jukebox , old advertisement signs even in the bathroom which was very clean. We didn't get any dessert since we were both full , but did get a big cinnamon roll for my daughter in law who was at work. They had some big pies on display that looked very good. They also sell t-shirts of the restaurant. I would definitely recommend you coming to eat here because you...

If you're LGBTQ, specifically trans, I would advise caution. I'm not the first review to say this. Mind you, I'm being much more generous with my stars, but I had a similar experience to the other transgender individual who left a 1 star review.
I don't talk about being trans much unless it causes a change in the way I feel I'm being treated. I admit it's impossible to tell intention from being called "guys" when in a group of more than one, but it was just me and my husband, so my ears perked. When she asked if we were together or sperate, the discomfort began. I'm with this guy. We walked in leaning on each other.
Then, I order coffee and she asks if I want cream. I say yes and get the standard option. Then the table next to me gets a choice of three different creamers. At this point, I'm checking the maps reviews and leaving the phone open on the table. Suddenly, she offers me the other creamer options when she comes back. Hmm.
We place our order, and she hits us with the "anything else, guys?" Feels like she's punching that word at this point.
We get our food and the rest of the meal is fine. The 50-80s vibe they have going is great. Just wish we could get out of some of the mindsets of that era.
By the time we're done eating, I'm beyond ready to go. I leave the money with my husband and get out of there.
Then my husband comes out and tells me that the owner(?) who rang him up made him wait and told him that she was answering Facebook stuff! 🤣🤣🤣
Admittedly, nothing added up to open discrimination, but if you don't know what "coded" means, it's the screaming subtext beneath what is (and isn't) said.
Finally, I've left a photo of the answer the owner gave to the review I mentioned above. Just in case the signs weren't adding up for anyone else, people in customer service usually APOLOGIZE for offending a customer, not patting themselves on the back over a one star review. This ain't Micheline.
Edit: Ok, so now my husband and I are liars? Oh, look at that, you can reduce the number of stars you...
Read moreThis used to be one of my favorite places but the discrimination and uncomfortable vibes have made me never want to come back. The waiter I had was a decent dude when I told him that he misgendered me and I really appreciate that but the others at the front were very dismissive and barely wanted to even acknowledge my existence. If you’re a member of the lgbtq+ and especially trans I would be cautious of going here. Even the other customers around me were incredibly rude. I guess I should have expected as much from a 50s themed place but my love for the rockabilly themes made me have to at least try it again after so long. I just want to protect my community, and that’s the whole reason for this review. To everyone there that was respectful and kind I really appreciate you and I’m sorry to have to leave such a negative review due to the others.
Edit: To reply to your comment, I wouldn’t call rude service from others, except the guy that I mentioned before, to be good. So yes it warranted a one star. I want the people in my community to feel safe and comfortable when they go somewhere. And this place didn’t do that for me. I’ll always speak out when I need to do so. But I feel like I need to specify that the waiter we had while there wasn’t apart of my bad experience. He was kind and respectful, even after telling him the pronouns I use. And I think he deserves to be spoken on about that. So thank you to him for being a kind human. Maybe this was a once off and a bad day for a few people but I’m just being honest that I didn’t appreciate it and due to my experience I won’t be coming back in the future. I do hope all those that are as kind as the guy that helped us thrive and have a...
