This was my first time in but it certainly won't be my last! As you can see, I ordered sort of a "greatest hits" array of items. The large brown mass in the foreground is "smothered pork chops," but I'm here to tell you these were not just the little ones like you'd expect. These were practically pork steaks and that gravy is legit over the rice. Tender, tasty, and as fine an example of the dish as you'll find. Now for the sides. The black eyed peas are smacking. Deep and saucy and I was just wishing for a bit more rice to put them on but they are all kinds of good any way. The cabbage is interesting. The cabbage itself is braised to tender perfection the way you want it, but they add some bell pepper and carrot to the mix and it just brings a nice additional depth of flavor that cabbage on its own doesn't have. I'm actually not much of a bell pepper fan but I dig it in the cabbage. The 5 cheese mac and cheese is good, but just good. This is not a complaint or a diss, but I like it to be baked and with the larger macaroni, but that's just my personal preference. It's still an excellent version and I will add that I was impressed by how well seasoned it is. All of the food for that matter. No salt or pepper was needed at the table in any dish, so that's just a mark of good cooking right there. The greens are just about as good as you are going to get. They use a mix of collards and mustards and they season well and use smoked turkey too. Very nice. I did wish for a bit of pepper sauce but that's just tradition for me. They have a faint little spice to them that's pretty nice, I just like that vinegar. The candied yams were practically dessert...lol! I like to crumble my corn bread up in there to soak up the butter and all and their corn bread has a nice crusty top and a little sweetness to it that was hard for me to quit eating. The only thing that kept me from eating it all was that I saved it for last so I was already pretty full and I wanted the leftovers. And even if I hadn't of ordered the three extra sides, there would have been leftovers. They do not mess around on portions! The other reason that I didn't eat all of the yams for dessert was because I also got a piece of the Butter Pecan Caramel Cake. Bruh. I decided to have a little taste because it looks so good and the next thing I know, half that piece of cake is gone...lol! I'm full as a tick, but my goodness! That cake is FIRE! I told the cool young dude (obviously the son of the owners) who waited on me to get used to seeing me because I'm going to be a regular for sure! I interacted with who I figure is "Mama" too and she was real nice. Good folks. Great food. Lots of it. What more do you want? Go get some at The Kitchen and you'll probably...
Read moreI recently visited The Kitchen by B&B Catering and was just so very disappointed. The first time I went to this restaurant my friend and I were hanging out in OKC and was trying to find someplace good to eat. At that moment we were listening to the radio and they literally were giving this really great soul food place the greatest review "The Kitchen" We then made a detour and headed that way. They did not disappoint, the atmosphere was chill, and great people. Felt like you were visiting someone's house and you were in the kitchen. We met the owner that day and her daughter she was the sweetest person, and so was her daughter they gave us some history of how they began and we looked forward to returning. Well, we did just that! My brother was visiting(Saturday, 10.28.2023) and my girlfriend and her granddaughter went to The Kitchen. This was an entirely different experience. The staff was young the service was slow, and you had to pull answers out of the server. The food was lacking and overcooked the chicken was dry and somewhat burnt. My friend her shrimp and grits were not warm at all. She then returned them to be heated up and they never brought her food back when we went to inquire the food was just sitting on the counter and no one had bothered to bring it to her. The food this time was lacking, we ordered the exact same thing as we did the first time and were just so disappointed the atmosphere was just lacking and the food was not the same standard that we remembered. I am really rooting for this place the Spaghetti on the other hand my girlfriend's granddaughter ordered was perfection. I hope this is helpful for the owners and to anyone reading this review do not count this place out because everyone has an off day. I am sure I...
Read moreThis was my 3rd time dining in here and each time the service is lacking. Today I ordered the smothered chicken and dressing Sunday soul food special. The server asked me if I wanted white or dark meat and I chose white meat. I was also given the choice of cornbread, jalapeño corn muffin or a roll. I chose cornbread.
The waiter came back with my food and bought out what looked to be a smothered leg quarter and it clearly wasn’t white meat. I also did not receive the bread option. I waited for him to come back to let him know and there was no offer to correct it and I was still charged the up charge for white meat. It was also noticed by me and others who were dining at a nearby table the portion size of the meal of some other diners at a table nearby who ordered the same dish was considerably larger than the portions we received. I don’t like leaving negative reviews but it seems better attention to detail and service at this location especially as long as they have been in the food business would make for a better dining experience. We all paid for our meals but it seems if you regularly dine here and are familiar with or know someone who is part of the staff you get larger portions and...
