There's so many often times that I have posted my reviews for Pakistani restaurants as I am Pakistani native myself. I grew up in the house of foodies. And few of our family members had successful restaurants of international Fame in Pakistan at one time. Living in New York for 35 years and having experience several places that are famous for the subcontinent food there's no surprises that these places are visited quite so often. However our neighbor state New Jersey has exceeded anybody's expectations and keeps on coming up with new and more authentic Pakistani flavors. For those who have been following my reviews they know that I have reviewed most of them quite recently I reviewed one of these places. Today after writing all this historical editorial I come to my latest experience of culinary excellence that has left me speechless. Dhaba food essentially is considered as a street food in India and Pakistan however there is very few that actually follow that route, new entrepreneurs concentrate on serving the international crowd and modify the dishes to their taste and their understanding of subcontinent food. In this fusion time there is a dire need for a real authentic Pakistani restaurant and therefore this review of mine is dedicated to one such gym called BBQ and Karahi house. First I would pay my regards to the management who comes in the format of a very estude gentleman with name Asif. He navigated us through the vast menu and guided what to order in what quantity and serving size. The food is beyond your imagination delicious and absolutely positively authentic Pakistani Punjabi food. Make no mistakes it's a no frill restaurant that highly concentrates on the authenticity of Pakistani food. I have not witnessed any restaurant in the tri-state area and beyond that can match the taste and excellence of this restaurant. It's truly a well hidden gem and needs to be discovered and once discovered you will understand this restaurant is no less than Kohinoor of United States Pakistani restaurant scene. Do not miss Mash...
Read moreFound this restaurant at a Halal food truck festival a few weeks back, was impressed by the food, and made it a point to seek it out to bring my whole family and father in-law for Father's day. Big mistake. Our waiter Asif greeted us wearing stress on his face and sweatpants as his uniform. His general demeanor was unwelcoming and standoffish with questions about the menu being met with sighs. Multiple times he seemed exasperated and sighed while serving us which is impressive because after initially taking our order he went missing in action for the next hour and 15 minutes before our food arrived. We ordered appetizers and bread that came out at the same time as our entrees, so the long wait was spent sitting in the empty, cold, and completely quiet restaurant. We contemplated leaving multiple times because we were waiting so long without any update. When finally bringing out the food Asif clumsily slammed one of our chicken appetizer dishes into the wall leaving sauce dripping so there was obviously contact, said "no problem", went to the back, added fresh green garnish, and pretended everything is ok.. Obviously did not eat that. When we let him know multiple items we ordered were missing he questioned whether we actually ordered them before finding them right in the back upon looking. My mother in-law brought some of these issues up when we received the bill and it was met with combativeness telling us the wait was because they were so busy (it was Saturday night, we were the only party in the restaurant the first hour, and only 1 doordasher came in) and just tried to hush her out the door. Before leaving he amended the bill to spitefully add something he had forgotten to originally add which he smiled as he said. Some of the food was average but most of it was subpar compared to multiple restaurants that are only 5-10 minutes away. I included a picture of where he slammed the chicken into the wall as well as picture of the receipt because I can see he likes to claim false reviews on anyone with...
Read moreAte here on a weekday night, was pretty quiet. The gentleman working front of house was very attentive and helpful. It was our first time trying this restaurant and our first time having Pakistani cuisine, and we couldn't have been more pleased!
First, we tried the Russian Salad, which was a creamy, slightly peppery fruit and vegetable salad that was a lovely appetizer, and a great way to quench the spiciness between bites of our other dishes.
We ordered the goat karahi and this might have been the best goat dish I've ever tried. The sauce was so flavorful, the meat was so tender, and there was no gamey smell to the meat at all. The spice level was just right for my party (though next time I'll probably get it hot instead of mild).
We also got the Lamb Boti Tikka, which was whole cubes of lamb marinated in a very flavorful and spicy marinade and grilled. At some other places where you get grilled meat, the meat is often flavorless on the inside, but that was not the case here - the marination penetrated all the way through and the entire lamb dish was incredibly flavorful. This one was my favorite, but the people I was dining with preferred the goat karahi.
We also got some plain naan and basmati rice with our food; it was very good and very reasonable for the price.
Overall a great experience, I will be coming back here again and I probably won't be going back to the other Indian restaurants nearby. There's really no reason to when this place exists. The food is of excellent quality, has great flavor, and the prices are reasonable for what you get.
If I had to make any suggestion to this restaurant, I would have loved to hear some Pakistani music while dining. Otherwise, everything...
