Ever since its fantastic renovation, Wasabi Kaizen, true to its name, has only improved on its ramen, sushi and sashimi dishes. Walk into its cozy atmosphere and be welcomed with paper koi floating above a cloud of sakura petals. The service is friendly and prompt. Everyone here is enthusiastic about the food they serve and it shows. I’ve eaten here several times since the restaurant’s glow up and each time, there are new menu items and specials that are fun to try out. The original Tonkotsu Ramen with its flavorful broth and slices of thick, juicy pork was excellent and now, they have a new Spicy Wagyu Beef Ramen that is as tasty, especially since I like things with a spicy kick! The sashimi is always fresh and the portions are always generous given the price. The various sushi rolls are very creative. The Wagyu Roll is certainly worth a try—specifically for those who aren’t a fan of the raw rolls. In fact, they have a really good selection of cooked and vegetarian rolls. They also have an appealing selection of appetizers. There’s fried chicken (karaage), the shrimp and avocado salad, shishito peppers, and okonomiyaki. Where else in central NJ can you find okonomiyaki? I, myself, like the Mentai Potato because hot fries dipped in umami yumminess is my favorite kind of snack. And if you still have room for dessert, their Matcha Cheesecake is a wonderful way to end a meal. There is nowhere else that serves better Japanese-inspired food in central Jersey.

We normally go to a couple of other sushi places in the area because they are slightly closer to us. Recently, we were driving by Wasabi Kaizen and decided to stop in to give them a try. We were so happy we did. The sushi was super fresh and the sushi/sashimi combo had more variety of meats than other sushi places in the area. My wife is Japanese and she was VERY impressed. Even the miso soup is better than other places around. Wasabi Kaizen also serves a few ramen soups. I've ordered and enjoyed their tonkotsu ramen very much. Since discovering Wasabi Kaizen about a month ago, I think we've been back there more than once a week. As much as I like the few other sushi places in the area, I have to say Wasabi Kaizen has the best quality and very fair prices. This is our new go-to sushi/ramen place. UPDATE: Dined in again recently. Brought my own Sapporo beer with me. When I asked for a glass for my beer, they brought out a frozen/frosted Sapporo beer glass for my beer. That was a very unexpected pleasant surprise.

Food and ambience is amazing! We ordered the kani salad, miso soup, tonkotsu ramen, waygu roll, fire roll, rainbow eel roll, matcha cheesecake and everything was 10/10. Ramen was authentic with tons of flavor and large portions, and the sushi was fresh. Matcha cheesecake was perfectly moist and not overly sweet. Everything was so great that I only remembered to take a picture of the ramen and dessert before devouring it all lol. Service was great and even the manager takes pride in the place and goes to each table to say hello. Don’t let the outside deter you from stepping inside—we were told they recently remodeled and the cleanliness and attention to detail really shows.
