Moved into the neighborhood a month or so ago. Found this place online. It’s literally a three minute drive from my house.
The first time I went, I got the fish and chip platter and a crab cake. These are the best fish and chips that I’ve ever had in my life. A) I’m a big crinkle cut fry guy and they gave a generous portion. B) more important than the fries, the fish was so well executed. It was super fresh and the batter was tasteful. They were done perfectly. The batter was seasoned delicately but the fish was just so buttery and fresh. Really nice job! The crab cake was just not good. It was riddled with filler and was just a bland pancake. Still left with a five star rating based on the other food and the SERVICE. Really nice young kid behind the counter.
The second time I went was last night. I asked for a fried fish platter instead of a bartered one. They went out of their way to deliver some panko breaded cod and it was absolutely delicious. I was so thoroughly impressed. Again, fresh fish and the breading clung to it like it was fighting for its life. It didn’t break away or fall off like most places. Expertly done. It was phenomenal. Super crispy, by the way. The cole slaw is simple but well executed. Juicy and fresh. It had a nice crunch to it. I enjoyed my meal with a nice hibiscus drink. It wasn’t overly sweet like I’m used to and so I thoroughly enjoyed the tartness to the beverage. Delicious and paired well. My only negative here (again, this is my first ever food review so I’ll be as straight forward as possible) was that I ordered a large soup to go. I was told New England clam chowder was in the building but I received Manhattan clam chowder which I don’t prefer. It was excellent, however I never would have ordered it if that was my option. Whatever.
Again, the service was next level. Shout out to the young kid with glasses who worked the register on both of my visits. Kid had great interpersonal skills.
Overall, you’ll be seeing a lot more of me. I look forward to trying a lot more on the menu. Personal preferences on some items aside, the food is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this spot. Oh, and my next trip I’ve decided to try to fried scallops, garlic shrimp and I’d like a side of their birria consume with my fries. If I’m feeling froggy I may throw in a lobster roll. $27 for 4oz of lobster on a nice piece of Texas toast and fries. Some reviewers said it was a bit pricey but I’ve paid similar prices for similar portioned rolls without a side from here to Ocean County. I’ll pay that all day judging by the quality of the food I’ve received on my first two...
Read moreThis seems to be a small family run business that's doing everything right. A few days ago we passed by the location and decided to go back last night to try it out, we're glad we did! Everything was pretty much spot on starting with friendly responsive service, small but clean looking insides, getting our food ready in about 10 minutes (we did pickup and ate down by the waterfront) to fresh delicious fish. We ordered two things, the blackened cod sandwich and the fish and chips. Both were great, the only small thing I could put forth a suggestion on is the blackened fish sandwich was a bit on the salty side for our palette. The fish and chips were perfect, two nice thick strips of cod, a light batter that clung to the fish and no "fishy" smell that you get from old fish. In addition the chips were nice and big just like we would expect. There was a side of cole slaw, also excellent as well as a generous tin of tartar sauce and plenty of vinegar and ketchup that we didn't even have to ask for in the bag. I'm really glad we found this place and I hope they have great success and keep the quality we experienced. Part of my reason for writing the review is I hope others find this little place and we have it around...
Read moreA nice little gem that appears to be a local favorite based on the constant pickups while we dined here recently. We both ordered fish and chips along with some amazing fried mushrooms. The fish and chips were top notch, fresh and had that delicious crunch to it. It came with the standard fries and cole slaw. I was happy that it came with malt vinegar (most places don’t) and tartar sauce (seemed house made👍). The fried mushrooms were bathed in the same fish batter that was obviously made in house and it was by far the best fried mushrooms we ever had! They were juicy, hot, crunchy and tremendously delicious! We never had fried mushrooms prepared this way and blew away any we had previously. I recommended that they use that batter for some fried pickles, we heard our server tell the cook so who knows if they will 🤷♂️🤷♂️. Anyway, we will definitely go out of our way to eat here again as this was a stop we made because we were in the area and I’m really glad we did. Lastly, it has a small dining area with a few tables, nothing fancy by any means, but the star is the food and the...
