Writing this review in hoping management will see. Growing up here in Old Saybrook Jack Rabbits was my favorite restaurant as a preteen, as I got older I switched over to the Rabbit Hole which is still in my top 3 favorite restaurants of all time. Being a manager myself at local restaurants, I will say I’m losing hope in this place (Jack Rabbits). (Rabbit Hole is amazing, especially Scott, he’s the best server, even remembered my order as I was a regular there) But on the other side of that wall I am very disappointed, unfortunately I mostly have time to do takeout now a days because I work many hours.
Last night 9/11/22 i called to order two things for takeout at 7:15pm. The phone was busy so i decided to wait til 7:30pm to call back. The line was then not busy anymore, but they were not answering. I called over and over again til finally the server decided to answer and I say i would like to place an order for takeout. She was unbelievable rude and said “you better get here before 8pm, because i’m locking the doors at 8, and then you’ll be asked out” I am dumbfounded. If any of my servers talked to our customers this way they would be fired instantly. I don’t know if they are taught this way or they weren’t trained on customer service but i have tried many times to get takeout between 7pm-8pm after visiting my parents to take home with me, seeing I live an hour away from Saybrook now. They never answer. My restaurant closes at 8pm as well, and we take orders until 8 pm. I told the girl that I was only 5 minutes away and as I showed up the phone was ringing and she again ignored it. My total was around $30, gave her $35 told her to keep the change, in hopes that she will learn to appreciate the customers, because without them supporting the business, there will be no more business. I hope things go back to normal for this business, covid has done some damage on all of us, people seem like they don’t know how important it is to have a good work ethic. I’ll still support jack at the hole and the saloon, if i ever get time to dine in, but i’ll be going somewhere else from now on to...
Read moreA few years ago a secondary Jack Rabbits location opened in Storrs Mansfield up near UConn's main campus, and it very quickly became my favorite "burger joint." Then the Storrs Downtown construction initiative began, and the upheaval proved to be too straining on a restaurant that hadn't established itself in the area.
The Old Saybrook main restaurant, with its satellite pub nearby, has fully established itself in the area; and the quality of food and service that was momentarily glimpsed at in Storrs is a daily occurance. The prices on the menu are on the high end for a burger, but when Five Guys or Mooyah burgers are priced at about the same, it's not surprising. The menu more than makes the value apparent, and for the adventerous the full menu will be a rewarding experience: the Up Burger, with a fried egg, is one of my all time favorites, the Pepe le Pew with grilled apple and Brie cheese is a local legend.
Finally, with extremely friendly staff and a fun dining atmosphere, Jack Rabbit's is THE burger to have and treat yourself to. And that's not eveb...
Read moreService is absolutely horrible and that doesn't fall on the waitress that helped us, she probably was only 16, that falls on management who fail to train their employees correct. Poor girl had no clue what was on the menu, never checked in on us to ask how the food was or refill our sodas. She failed to inform us that they do not wrap burgers in lettuce only they put it on a bed of lettuce and failed to mention that sweet potato fries were not a side included with the burger but a separate charge. Never asked how we wanted our burgers cooked. There was no one else in the dining room and none of the other two employees bothered to train her properly. I also believe a manager was on duty and after she heard me questioning the bill, she didn't even bother to help. The service was absolutely awful and I will never return to this establishment for dining in, it's clear they prefer take out orders instead of customers in the establishment. Burgers were okay but Haywire Burger is better and you get more bang...
