Celebrating 20 years of Mindy K’s! A staple of Old Saybrook, Mindy K’s is an unassuming eatery that serves up consistently fine food of a variety of cuisines: American breakfast fare, unique lunch wraps, authentic Thai cuisine (I lived in Thailand; this IS the real deal)—including homemade curries—Tex-Mex favorites, and more. I’ve never been disappointed by Mindy K’s. Some of my favorite things from the menu are: Western Omelette, Twin Crispy Tacos, Beef Taco Wrap, Buffalo Chicken Wrap, and ALL of the Thai Curries. A local gem, conceived, owned, and operated by a local Thai family for two decades, now in the very capable hands of an Old Saybrook resident with an expansive career in the food and restaurant industry. Rick introduced his own interpretation of Thai Green Curry, which is spot-on! Service remains stellar. As well, he has incorporated his own Tom Yum into the menu: it is thick, spicy, boldly flavorful, and creamy...Thai perfection! To boot, he has—hands-down—the very best pho I have ever found in CT, both along the Shoreline, as well as in Hartford. Other awesome Asian additions of Chef Rick include wonton soup, Udon with perfectly cooked noodles and crunchy bok choy (this one is totally unique to our area) and Mexican fare such as Chilaquiles and Tinga—both home runs! Now, Mindy's also has the best brunch going in town: I was in this morning and, for $14.95, there was a huge spread: scrambled eggs, home fries, link sausage, bacon, Asian fried rice with chicken, cavatelli pomodoro, chicken Parmesan, salad, fruit, muffins and bagels,, and it even included a drink! 5 stars! Not only does Mindy K's have amazing food, every single person here was so so so nice! My parents' car broke down today at the beginning of their road trip, and they were essentially stranded until I was able to pick them up. Thank goodness they got dropped off at Mindy K's! Rick, the Owner/Chef, took such good care of them. He turned their experience waiting for their car to be fixed, which would typically have been really tough, into an awesome one. They had a delicious breakfast (pancakes, eggs, excellent coffee, and incredible sausage) and then a super good lunch (chicken cordon bleu sandwich). When I finally arrived, we had the BBQ pork and shrimp summer rolls - SO good. Any other restaurant could have tried to tactfully push my parents out since they needed a place to stay for such a long while, but Rick and his staff were nothing like that - they were warm, welcoming, friendly, and the food was great! Was excited to order here, but even when calling ahead there was no indication that it was cash only. When we entered, we were surprised that there was a couple in front of us who had to rescind their order because they didn't have cash. We also didn't have enough cash or a debit card on us and couldn't pay for the order. These things happen, and we would have been ok returning home and getting the money, but the owner started barking at us about how the business has been here 20 years and we should know they only take cash.

I tried to explain that i was visiting family and didn't know about this, but the owner would not hear it and kept being a jerk. So, I just went somewhere else and won't be returning here. I heard this place came under new ownership recently. Too bad, the new guy ended up...
