I was looking forward to trying this place. The great reviews had my expectations through the roof. I think sometimes when one is really looking forward to something...the disappointment can be so much worse. Perhaps this has jaded my review, nonetheless, here it is. I was among a party of 14. Another large party showed up shortly after us. The other tables seemed full. There were only 3 servers and they were also bartending for themselves. We sat at our table with our 1st drinks for a reasonable time when our orders were taken. It was Another full 75 minutes..1 hour and 15 minutes... before our server found the time to bring us bread. 15 minutes later she asked if anyone wanted another drink...so 90 minutes and no salads yet. I asked my server about this and she said they were "under staffed and over booked". To be clear...booking a restaurant is completely under their control. They had no bartenders, no bus staff, and apparently only 2 people cooking. Sorry, but they knew they were "understaffed" and they "over booked" anyway. When I finally asked about getting another drink because I was saving my wine to eat with my main meal, the server "remembered " to tell me that they had ran out of what i had ordered!. (Just a reminder that this is a full 90 minutes after we ordered). At this point my sympathy had turned to disgust. Eventually our food would have arrived and mine would have been the only one to not arrive. She brought my salad but it was not good. The "balsamic" just tasted like vinegar. At this point I left because I would have been sitting there while others had food. (There was no putting a rush on this disaster) I would not suggest this place to anyone. They obviously are having issues that will not be resolved any time...
Read moreamazing food -great atmosphere -pricey, but reasonable and worth it
I've never had authentic French cuisine so I can't judge base on that. However, everything my friends and I ordered on our first visit was amazing. For the guys, the main entrée was smaller in portion than what will fill them up, but they were quite appropriate amount since we each did a bistro (1 appetizer, 1 entrée, and 1 desert). At the end of the meal, there was enough food to fill us all up (just not to the point of discomfort) and all us each to had a taste of a dish from each category. The atmosphere had a nice ambiance so perfect for date night!
Foie Gras frais au sel marin toaste: this is for those who've had duck before because the toast is covered in duck fat. The liver was very creamy. There were only 6 slices, but the flavor was strong enough that one or two will fulfill your taste bud. BRIE JOSETTE was on the fruity side and the chutney balanced out the duck liver. CANARD CONFIT, VINAIGRETTE DE MURES was in a smaller portion than I thought, but the duck was so tender and like the appetizers, the duck fat and fruit "sauce' worked really well together. Beef stew reminded me of Vietnamese beef stew, but a fancier version and was extremely tender. Seafood stew was also very good, however, the portion were fairly small. We only had a few pieces of each seafood which made the dish not worth ordering again. As for the desserts, we got chocolate mouse and clafoutis aux lychees which were divine. However, since the portion were fairly small, it would not have been worth if we didn't...
Read moreHaving lived in Europe extensively, dining at Le Voltaire opened the floodgates of pleasurable memories and for a little while, I found myself back in Luxembourg/France enjoying every savory morsel of the perfectly prepared entrees. The service was warm and friendly and Shawn was simply the best server! The food, well let's just say, short of getting on a plane and flying to France for dinner, this is by far, the BEST, least expensive option! Chef Wilson has captured the Best-of-the-best in his menu options! I feasted on: Saumon Fumé et Ses Condiments - Simply a dream Filet Mignon, Sauce au Poivre - The steak was perfectly prepared and the sauce was wonderful! I opted for Parmesan/Truffle fries, which were simply spectacular! Mousse au Chocolat - This was the absolutely most decadent thing I've enjoyed in a very long time! Not to sweet, topped with fresh whipped cream, The wine - Le Voltaire has an extensive wine list which will please even the most discerning Sommelier. We enjoyed the Saint Julian Gruaud Larose which was out of this world! All this was topped off by the company of Chef Wilson himself. A fellow Brooklynite whose passion for food was evident in the perfectly prepared feast. A humble and thoughtful gentleman, we chatted for some time. Suffice to say, this was a most pleasurable dining experience, and one which will be repeated again and...
