Mama's Fried Chicken — Restaurant in Opelousas

I’ve been hearing so much about this place had to stop by when I got the chance. Ordered the chicken, of course, with red beans and rice with a lemonade. While waiting I see they have seasoning for sale on the back wall. I thought of this might be good, special seasoning……. Get my food. Open the red beans and thought well it’s a bunch of rice with a little red beans on top. I prefer it to be more 50/50. I don’t appreciate any kind of rice n gravy or beans that when you mix it you still have mostly white rice. Why give me all of this rice if you can’t cover it thoroughly with the added product when mixed. Sadly this happen because the red beans where actually pretty good. Seasoned very well and has some nice smokey sausage. I would have loved it if there were more beans so as the rice swallowed up all of the creamy texture. But I’m here for the chicken and after the flavor explosion of the beans, now I’m looking forward to the chicken. Highly disappointing, they should use some of the seasoning they sell on the chicken they cook. It was just bland almost flavorless fried chicken. It was cooked well, very juicy. But how do you go from beans with a bang to flavorless chicken. Those biscuits were amazing! Huge! A moist biscuit too, yummy. The lemonade was fantastic! The service was pretty good. We are displaced due to Hurricane Ida and we made friends with the people next to us at a Chinese buffet 2 nights ago. We ate at Pedro's where her daughter works last night (excellent food by the way) and Mama's chicken was her other food suggestion. And OMG was she right!! Chicken was on point. Large pieces, juicy and fresh! The coleslaw was unlike any I had before. Y'all know coleslaw is like potato salad, you just are not gonna like everyone's.... BUT I must say this one was very very good. We shared a gizzard/liver dinner, also very good, they were a little spicy like the chicken. The star of the meal for me personally was the fried okra. Y'all 😳 first off they are huge , fried perfectly and there is some kind of magical tasty seasoning lightly dusted on them, very slightly sweet and exact amount of salt. It's not alot , just enough for you to think " WHAT is THAT and why does it taste so freakin good ?! " Highly recommend , not only for the amazing food but their prices are lower than you would think. Taste a little bit of everything without breaking the bank. We will...

Listen👏🏼 to👏🏼 me👏🏼 If you’re traveling through and you’re starving… actually even if you’re not hungry, stop for the chicken. You’ll be happy you did! And, listen, if you are hungry, DO NOT STOP AT Chick-fil-A!! I know you’ll be tempted to because it’s “convenient” and your stomach will almost have you convinced you’re better off just pulling in. You won’t. Hear me, this chicken is THE BEST chicken you’ll ever have. Juicy (not greasy), light and crispy batter cooked to perfection and you won’t think it can get any better.. until it does… when you bite into the biscuit!! I can’t be certain what manna from heaven actually tastes like, but, I’d like to think it tastes something like this. Whoever is back there whipping up these fluffy, warm, delicious blessings definitely has the anointing of God. It’ll be having you sad it’s over, even if you’re so full you can barely breathe and need a nap afterwards. So, just do yourself and favor and trust a complete stranger on the internet and stop in...
