We visited Gulf Shores for spring break as we often do, but had never tried this place. Needless to say, we will be back every year if I have a say! The ice cream is made fresh throughout the day, and we even got to see some being churned while we were there! The servings are very generous, and the waffle bowls taste house made as well. I had 2 flavors, strawberry and coconut, and they were divine. The flavor and texture were amazing. I’ll be dreaming about that coconut flavor until my next visit. My daughter has a dairy allergy, so we ordered her one of the sorbets. I think it was raspberry lemonade. She was napping when we were in the shop, and the lady who took our order offered to pack her sorbet in a styrofoam cup and keep it in the freezer until we were ready to leave. That was very thoughtful and helpful for sure. She also pulled out a fresh batch of mint chip when my husband mentioned that they didn’t have his favorite flavor. I asked him if he meant mint chip, and he said yeah, and next thing we knew she was pulling out a fresh batch for him from the freezer. It was the best mint chip we’ve ever tasted. The fact that the shop was clean, the health score was 100, service was great, AND the ice cream was delicious is unheard of these days. Thanks to the establishment as a whole for making our quick little trip that much more amazing. ❤️...

Update to original post (below). We visited Pete's Ice Cream again today. It had been some time since our original post and we thought we would try again. We bought two waffle cones, each with two scoops of ice cream. The ice cream was still good but the attitude of the employee who served us was no better than that of the young man who served us last time. Surely there are young people who want to work and who have a friendly, welcoming attitude. Also, neither of our waffle cones were fresh. They were soft, not crunchy and we ended up throwing the last parts away. There are several places to buy good ice cream in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores so this was our last visit to Pete's. The ice cream is good but the attitudes will prevent our return.

Original post: We have stopped in at Pete's Ice Cream numerous times. The employees have been friendly and the ice cream has always been delicious. But, today must have been a bad day. The young male employee who served us apparently didn't want to be at work and his attitude clearly communicated that he didn't care whether we were there or not. If this had been our first visit to Pete's it likely would also have been our last. But since we've had enjoyable visits previously we will simply write this one off. Maybe our next visit will be...

Im giving a 5 star but I have a HUGE comment for the owners. Ill start by saying we are a 6 minute walk away staying Cottages at Romar and last night all 18 of us came by and thoroughly enjoyed the service and especially the ice cream. Tonight, I had to go to the emergency room for what turned out to be a minor thing. I noticed it was 10:35 and we(two of us) had time to go by Petes with GPS saying we would arrive by 10:48. We arrived at 10:50 and were turned away as being "closed." The staff were standing around in the lobby seemingly doing nothing. This is UNACCEPTABLE!!!! If you claim to be open til 11pm, BE OPEN until 11pm!!! (DUH) I owned a yogurt shop for several years and I grilled my nighttime employees to NEVER lock the door prior to closing time. Now we have a bad feeling for Petes. All because some teenagers thought they were saving a few minutes. Big mistake owners. Take control of your store. I still gave a 5 star review but let's get...

It was the fun and colorful building that drew us in and the fun and colorful owner, Pete, that kept us entertained. He only had his home-made ice cream at the time, but man was it good! Locally sourced ingredients and some unique flavors. I had the best toasted coconut ice cream I've ever had. Very well done. The place was spotless and super clean. He had several people come in for donuts so hopefully that will be reconsidered so its available for our return trip next time we're in town. Thanks Pete! Mohalo!

INCREDIBLE! Best Ice cream we’ve ever had. The black berry sorbet is OUT OF THIS WORLD! And the raspberry is the fluffiest creamiest, just sweet enough to tickle your good spot. You can truly tell this is home made all the way. Pete himself is a doll, charming and polite and very willing to help you find the best one in the store before deciding. The cookies and cream and cookie dough were both also very light and delicious. Best ice cream in the gulf, don’t pass it up!
