We had eaten here a bit over a year ago and had a great experience. This time we brought several family members with us and had a not as stellar experience. The positives first... our server was utterly fantastic. She was attentive (without being annoyingly hovery), friendly, kept drinks topped up for all of us, and was accurate on orders. Actually she was the only super positive. Though the fries were good. Menu prices were much higher than last time. We get it.. inflation.. but $20 for a burger and fries it should be better than average. Especially with other restaurants in town charging $9 for just as good or better. Mahi mahi bites were shockingly greasy and very overcooked. I couldn't tell you what fish (or even if it was fish) in the tacos. Whatever protein it was, was cooked down to texture-less mush. The soft tortillas were hard almost to the point of crunchy. The most negative part of the experience was the beginning. The hostess seemed utterly overwhelmed, despite there not being a large crowd. She was audibly cussing under her breath as she tried to figure out seating despite the presenceof small children near her. And only having 3 groups on the waitlist. She snapped at other staff. She also had everyone wait (up to half an hour) despite there being lots of open tables. It was so bad it almost became amusing. Despite our earlier good experiences, and the valiant efforts of our waitress, we will likely not be returning.

We were told this was THE place to eat. It was not bad. My 'stuffed flounder' was actually flounder with drizzled crab on top and definitely not stuffed. It was ok. Sweet potato fries were good. My dinner salad was average. New Castle was cold. View of the inner harbor and the boats was great. My dining partner got the Mahi Mahi kabobs [he asked for them blackened and they complied]. He said they were good. The bread was average. The service was good and our server worked hard. It was not a cheap dinner. Maybe I was expecting too much.

We waited 50 minutes (after seated) for 4 ($20 each) hamburgers which were burnt. We sat at the table with no food. No one apologized until it was time for the tip. After talking to locals this is typical. We had just pulled into town on a house hunting mission and this was a horrible first experience.

I was very disappointed with my over all dining experience Feb. 18, 2011. From start to finish it was horrible. The hostess was rude and offered no greeting. The service was beyond slow and very unattentive. My meal was unfit to eat. I sent my entire meal back untouched. My salad was comprised of brown iceberg lettuce and translucent cucumbers and onions. We waited 20 mins. or more just to get our drink order taken and there were only 3 other tables in our servers section. We waited another 20 mins. for our server to bring us our water. The soup and salad that we ordered when we placed our drink order took another 20 mins. My entree was tough and bland. My companion order fried foods that turned out okay. But his mashed potatoes were bland and unfit as well. Not only was the food bad but the hostess was walking around the deck smoking and with the doors open the smoke was entering the dining room. The "chef" or cook came out the kitchen at one point and I realized he had a bushy unkept beard another gross me out moment. Later on I did see him smoking as well. All and all I will never come back here again and am embarrassed it was my idea to dine here. The last visit to the restaurant was in 2004 and I loved it I guess over the years the quality has gone down...

I reviewed Toucan Grill before less favorably because they did not manage where people smoked. They seemed to get more conscious of this and it got better so we have been back many, many times. Today however I write a review of the lowest rating to convey, with sadness, that I will not be returning to Toucan again. This is on principal due to the total lack of caring for the safety and well being of their staff and patrons during this terrible COVID situation.

With every restaurant and small business struggling to make it through we have tried to go out every week to a different place to spread the money. We always wear our masks and on the whole others do and definitely the restaurants and their staff have also. Toucan Grill shows the lowest possible care, no signs, not a single patron other than our table sitting outside wearing masks. I find this total disregard abhorrent when people are suffering so badly from COVID.

Toucan Grill has lost well in excess of one hundred meals a year between us and the friends we always took there when they...
