Mayan Palace — Restaurant in Orland Township

We had a rather large group, 15+. The circular and square tables weren’t put together in a way to support us being there. We ordered 2 bowls of queso dip. I have never been so disappointed. The cheese was bland and tasted like it was mixed from powder. This was consistent with both bowls and everyone that tasted it agreed. Adding salt and pepper made it worst. We had 4 mango Margarita chamoys and they were all different. I got mine first and there was zero liquor in it. 18 bucks supposedly top shelf and it had nothing in it. Mine was also the only one that came with the “candy” that was advertised. Pretty sure mine was the only one that was a mocktail.

I ordered enchiladas covered in cheese sauce, this was before I knew the queso was awful so needless to say my enchiladas were terrible. The rice and beans from around the table were all bland and the beans were like a spreadable mayo. We ordered a peach sangria that came with no sangria. Now it wasn’t all bad, there were two orders of ceviche and they raved how good it was but that’s not what I ordered. Also someone ordered a diablo burrito that was tasty but extremely spicy.

Then to top it off the waiter put everything on 1 ticket. When we pointed it out he didn’t change it. He did a great job taking our picture but the experience overall was terrible and that’s putting it lightly. I just remember looking down at my food several times and being so disappointed because I love Mexican food and queso never...

I did not care for any of the food. The beans taste like they're from a can as well as the salsa.. The the rice was half cooked every time I took a bite there was an awful crunch. It seems as though the drinks may be good as I seen several of the other customers had margaritas and they looked good...but the carne asada dinner I had was not good .. my son had a taco dinner and my daughter had a combo plate. All of our food in our opinion was below average. I have had much better food from a neighborhood taco joint for 1/4 the price. I was very disappointed as I had been told it was a nice place. One other thing is that they had just cleaned the floors and all I could smell was fabuloso cleaner.. we were there at 7 PM so I think the timing for that was unnecessary. Tacos were great! Most taco places place an upcharge on steak tacos but they are the same price as beef or chicken here. The only reason they didnt get 5 stars is because the waiter who was the manager we believe, was a little bit snappy at thr beginning. Maybe it was a cultural thing maybe we was initially upset because it was 12 of us, i dont know. He seemed to get upset because he got confused as to splitting up checks. He wanted to know at the beginning so we told him. It was about 12 of us so we had 6 separate checks but he was a little snappy about it. Other than that we had a pretty good time here. Tacos are good, burritos are good. The wait time is excellent. The frozen strawberry margarita was just ok. It needed more flavor, wasnt sweet. But looked good and I did drink it. 4...
