This place has won best Thai restaurant in Orlando for two years in a row now, according to the readers of Orlando Weekly, whom I trust very much with food recommendations. So I had to come and check this place out. It's just hanging out nonchalantly on the side of Colonial. No frills or anything on the outside.
On the inside, however, is a nice, classic interior that felt very Thai to me. I've never been to Thailand, but I still got the vibe. Anyway, we got seated and started ordering fooood.
Started off with the Fried Tofu (Golden battered fried tofu, served with a sweet chili sauce). The fried tofu was great! I like my tofu nice and firm, and it would have to be in order to hold up to the battering and frying process. Nice and crispy on the outside, soft, creamy tofu consistently on the inside. Served with the classic sweet chili sauce, and this was a winner.
I also got my hands on the Summer Roll Shrimp. These are super fresh. The Huge, plump shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the mega crunchy lettuce inside really makes this a light, fun little app.
For my main event, I chose the Pineapple Duck Curry (Crispy boneless duck, pineapple, tomato, sweet basil, bamboo, bell pepper, & eggplant in red curry cream sauce). Wow. The duck, as advertised, had very crispy skin. Veggies aplenty, with my favorite being the sweet pineapple. Of course, the make or break of this was gonna be the sauce, and yes, it is jam packed with creamy, curry-y deliciousness. I was a HUGE fan, and I do recommend this.
I also got to sample the Woonsen Pad Thai (Jumbo fresh water prawns, glass noodle, bean sprout & peanut). You only get three huge prawns on this dish, so they better darn well be cooked good. And they were. It was like eating three mini-lobsters. You know what glass noodles and bean sprouts are like, so just take a bite of this, a bite of that, and this is a really fun dish, too.
Overall, wow, this was great. Everything was so good and way way better than the Thai offerings that generic Asian restaurants have to offer. Find this hidden gem, and give them...
Read moreThe food here is consistently great—flavorful, fresh, and well-executed. But after multiple disappointing experiences with the service, I don’t feel comfortable dining in anymore.
First, I’d like to start on a positive note with the dishes we got! For appetizers, we got chicken satay and fried calamari. Next for entrees, we got the pineapple duck curry and tofu pad see ew. I recommend subbing the flat noodles for the chewy and bouncy texture udon. Everything was good as always!
Now onto the service: My partner and I, both Asian, arrived before last seating. Several white diners came in after us, and it was hard not to notice the difference in how we were treated. Our server didn’t greet us, rushed through our order, and didn’t check on us once. In contrast, she smiled, chatted, and offered noticeably warmer service to the white tables that came later. Despite finishing our meal before closing, we were the last to be acknowledged and never even got a chance to order dessert—we simply didn’t feel welcomed.
This isn’t the first time we’ve had to overlook things here. Once, we saw a roach crawl out from a half-booth table. We kept quiet out of respect for the business because we genuinely loved the food and wanted to support it. It wasn’t until we privately pointed it out to staff (and yes, we do have a photo) that we noticed a shift in how we were treated— temporarily.
We’ve given this place many chances because the food is worth rooting for and always tip wait staff 18%+, but the repeated lack of care in how we’re treated is exhausting. At this point, takeout is the only way I’ll continue supporting this restaurant.
Given everything I’ve shared— consistent good food, but repeated poor service with potential racial bias, and even a possible health concern— I give it a 3-star rating to reflect both my high respect for their good food and the HONEST frustration with...
Read moreFrom the outside this place looks like a regular asian place but once you walk inside its very nice with good vibes; my boyfriend and I got seated immediately and the service was very fast and good. As an appetizer I ordered the fried crab cheese which is my absolute favorite I order overtime I go to an asian place, however I was less than impressed by their Crab cheese, they were very small which was understandable since it is an appetizer, but it was barely filled all the way, just one bite and all the filling would be done and I would be left with the fried dough, another thing was that I didn't see or taste any crab in it, it seemed like straight cream cheese to the point where I asked a worker if this had any crab inside it, I even almost let my vegetarian boyfriend have one. My boyfriend ordered a vegetable spring roll which was very good. As our entree I ordered the spicy basil fried rice with chicken which was actually decent but the chicken was dry and the scallions, bell pepper and onion were chopped so big literally the scallions were cut in half and placed inside the rice, my preference is when they're finely cut. My boyfriend ordered the pineapple fried rice with tofu which was really good the pineapple gave it a nice taste, the tofu was really fried and the inside wasn't too mushy, overall he liked it. Lastly we shared the tempura cheesecake as the dessert, and again I was not impressed the taste was amazing but they cut up the cheesecake into 5 SMALL pieces which would not make up not even half of one normal size slice of cheesecake, what I'm saying is that we basically ordered ice cream with small pieced of ice cream. Overall everyone seemed to like this place and maybe it was my choice of food that made me not have such a great experience, i would definitely go again and try...
