This is the review you're looking for:
I came into this with high expectations due to my long history with Hot Spot and other BBQ locations, but I have to say—this was the worst one I've been to, and here’s why:
Time management issues: Compared to other locations, most places provide a time card at the table so you can track how long everything takes—whether for the soup or the grill. Here, it's very difficult to accurately cook all the food, and the estimated BBQ times are wildly inaccurate.
BBQ... Just don’t. Unlike most places that use cast iron tops with minimal vents or even heat induction versus an open flame, this setup was terrible. None of my party’s food cooked properly, regardless of the suggested cooking times. Luckily, I know how to cook, so I could tell when things were done, but for a group of four trying to share the grill, the outer edges simply didn’t work.
Self-serve? Great in theory, terrible in practice. I saw people coughing, sneezing, and touching the tongs—some even using the same tongs for raw chicken and raw beef. This should not be left to the consumers. I prefer properly portioned servings delivered to the table to maintain sanitation.
Soups... Lacked flavor and seasoning. Maybe it was just an off night, but even after adding spices and other ingredients from the self-serve station, the flavor didn't improve.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this location—especially for first-timers. Take the time to find a better one, even if it costs a little more. It’s worth it to...
Read moreWe came to Volcano Hot Pot & BBQ with a party of 7, excited to try both the hot pot and BBQ combo. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t fully live up to expectations.
The table setup only accommodates 6 people comfortably, with a single grill placed at one end. When we asked if we could exclude one person from the hot pot, since there weren’t enough burners. the waiter checked with the manager and came back saying it wasn’t allowed. Their solution was to split our party across two tables, which defeated the purpose of coming together as a group. So, the seventh person had to pay full price for hot pot they didn’t even get to use.
Another downside was the awkward grill placement. With the grill located at the far end of the table, only about four people could actually cook or interact with it. The remaining two or three were mostly just watching. On top of that, the grill itself didn’t cook food very evenly and wasn’t as responsive as we expected.
Overall, the food was decent, but the layout and group policies took away from the experience. If you’re dining with a small group, this place might be fine but for larger parties, it’s something to think...
