The 1890 Pub & Bistro — Restaurant in Oshkosh

Generally a bad experience. The food did taste good, not a single order at our table had complaints about quality. However there were many many easily fixable issues that compounded into an extremely disappointing evening. -servers seemed understaffed, when we were finally approached we were told our server was very busy so this person was going to get our order to help her out. But we never ended up having another person approach the table. -As we were ordering I was informed they were sold out of the grouper (the only seafood entree) because they had run out the day before. -we ordered 2 drinks, 4 waters, and 2 appetizers. Waters were forgotten and we had to flag down another staff to get them. One appetizer was brought out at the same time as one person’s entree, and as it was delivered the chef walked by and told the server they had the wrong table for that entree. The dish was left at the table for several minutes anyway before we again flagged down staff to say this wasn’t our order. We were missing our second appetizer and we still needed extra plates to share the one appetizer we got. The chef brought out the correct prime rib order to replace the mistaken one previously delivered and asked if the rest of the table ordered any entrees. He seemed frustrated and we really appreciated the chef taking the time to attempt to correct the errors going on. -we had to flag down a server for a steak knife and the wrapped silverware was spotty and dirty looking, just needed to be polished before rolled. This was all before the rest of the 3 entrees were served. -the server ended up taking off our appetizers and apologized as she dropped the bill, which I did appreciate but seemed far too late to make a difference in the experience. I made sure to tip the chef as well as the server because he seemed to be the only one trying to actively solve issues.

Would have appreciated any kind of management to stop by to check in or any acknowledgment of the issues happening before the bill was presented.

We will not be back and regret not choosing a different restaurant for Father’s Day...

I want to start by saying that the food was FANTASTIC. 11/10 for both items I ordered and same for those my friend ordered. I started with the fried pickles and she started with the blueberry goat cheese bruschetta, both were super good. For my entree I got the Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich and the sauce on it is to die for. We even saw the chef come out and seat a table while the waitresses were busy which is awesome.

The drinks on the other hand, they need some work on making them quicker (I got my appetizer BEFORE I got my simple lemonade mocktail (blushing belle)) and it wasn’t what I ordered and tasted like plain lemon water (I ordered it with strawberry and there was none). Keep in mind we were there at 12 pm and there was barely anyone at the bar and only us and one other table.

Our service was the only reason I gave them 4 stars. Our waitress was great, she might have been a little new to waitressing but she was lovely. The bar is where our service lacked. We walked in and the bartender was near the host stand, we didn’t get a hello and he asked how he could help us. He then grabbed two menus and just started walking away, no “you can follow me”. When we got into the restaurant areas, he shoved the menus into our waitress’ hands and walked away without another word. This plays in to how our drinks were not up to par.

wow! GREAT EXPERIENCE TOP TO BOTTOM! we (group of 4) walked in and had our eyes set on bar spots- it was almost fully loaded but 2 lovely patrons asked if they could move so we could all fit- it was generous and cool and showed what the people around here are like. we all sat down and were prompted with a smile and happy welcome by ashley bartending! 2 of the 4 in our group went to UWO for college yearrrrrs ago so it was awesome to see a new spot to try. ashley was the best! she gave us her faves and helped us decide on the best of the best on the menu. (which was everything on the menu) we all had different entrees and couldn’t even wait until we got in the car to start this review- EXCELLENCE! start to finish we ate, we drank and we left merrier than we were when we came! thank you 1890 and ashley for showing us a badass lunch among best friends! keep up the great work! can’t wait...
