Prepare yourself for a tale of culinary disappointment as I recount my regrettable experience at Garozzo's Italian in Overland Park, Kansas City. What was meant to be a delightful dining affair turned into a saga of mediocrity, subpar fare, and an overall lackluster performance that left me questioning the restaurant's reputation.
Upon being seated, we were handed lunch menus, only to have them snatched away abruptly and replaced with dinner menus. This puzzling display of disorganization set the stage for what was to come—an unremarkable culinary journey.
Alas, the food failed to evoke any semblance of delight. With each bite, I was confronted with a distressing amount of oil, coating my taste buds and leaving an unpleasant residue that lingered long after the meal. The chicken, touted as a shining star, turned out to be an imposter, dry and lacking the succulence one would expect. Its frozen origins were unmistakable, as freshness was nowhere to be found in this uninspired creation.
But let's not stop there, for the staff provided their own theater of incompetence. While attempting to enjoy our meal, we were subjected to the unprofessional banter of servers openly complaining about their boss. It was as if we were transported to a dismal reality show, witnessing a behind-the-scenes meltdown unfold before our very eyes. This display of unprofessionalism tainted the atmosphere and raised grave concerns about the restaurant's management and work environment.
Prepare to have your wallet ravaged, for the pricing at Garozzo's Italian can only be described as daylight robbery. To charge such exorbitant prices for a culinary experience that fell egregiously short of expectations is a slap in the face to those seeking genuine value. We were left with a bitter taste, both figuratively and literally, as we reflected on the unjustifiable premium we had paid for subpar quality.
The missteps continued with the complimentary bread, a cruel prelude to the rest of the meal. Expecting a warm and inviting starter, we were instead met with hard, dry loaves that seemed to have been forgotten in the realm of stale mediocrity. A true betrayal of the anticipation one has for the opening act of an Italian feast.
Finally, we come to the cocktails, or should I say, the shadow of cocktails. Instead of being crafted with care and artistry, they were but a sad amalgamation of spirits and pre-bottled mixtures. The absence of skilled mixology was evident in every sip, leaving us yearning for the complexity, freshness, and soul that should reside in a well-crafted libation.
In closing, my unfortunate encounter with Garozzo's Italian in Overland Park, Kansas City, can only be described as an affair marred by disappointment, regret, and a profound lack of culinary prowess. Save yourself from this mediocre voyage and seek out the true gems that grace the culinary landscape of the area. Read moreGarozzo's in Overland Park is truly a gem for Italian cuisine enthusiasts like myself. My recent dining experience there was a delightful journey through flavors and textures, albeit with a few hiccups along the way.Let's start with the star of the show: the food. Oh boy, where do I begin? The mozzarella fritta appetizer was a crispy, gooey masterpiece. Each bite was like a little taste of heaven, setting the bar high for the rest of the meal. Moving on to the entrees, both the Chicken Alfredo and the Chicken Vincenzo were nothing short of spectacular. The flavors were rich and authentic, making it hard to resist licking the plate clean. And let's not forget the house salad, a refreshing and perfectly balanced accompaniment to the main course. Now, onto the not-so-great part of the experience: the service. Our server, Pedro, seemed to be having a bit of a rough day. While he was polite, there were moments of forgetfulness and delays that were a tad frustrating. It felt like he might have been stretched thin with too many tables to handle, leading to a less-than-optimal experience for us. However, I do believe that everyone has off days, and I'm hopeful that Pedro's next shift will be smoother.Despite the service blip, Garozzo's Overland Park location remains a favorite of mine for its exceptional food quality. There's something about the way they infuse each dish with authentic Italian flavors that keeps me coming back for more. It's not just a meal; it's a culinary journey that satisfies both the palate and the soul.Speaking of soul-satisfying experiences, let's talk ambiance. Garozzo's has that cozy yet lively atmosphere that makes dining out feel like a special occasion every time. The dim lighting, the chatter of other diners, and the aroma of freshly cooked pasta in the air create a welcoming and festive vibe that enhances the overall dining experience. And let's not forget about value for money. While Garozzo's is not the cheapest Italian joint in town, the portion sizes and quality of ingredients justify the prices. It's the kind of place where you know you're getting your money's worth in every bite.In conclusion, Garozzo's in Overland Park is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Italian flavors served with a side of warmth and hospitality. While there may be occasional bumps in the road, the exceptional food and inviting ambiance make it a dining destination worth revisiting time and time again. Cheers to good food and memorable dining...
Read moreMy first experience to Garozzo's as my wife and I received a gift card as a Christmas gift. I love Italian and was excited to try Garozzo's.
We had a 6:45p reservation, which they were running behind, no big deal as we were seated by 7:00p. However, we were never given an approximate time of extended wait period and not offered a menu to review during our wait.
Once seated, we were promptly served water and shortly after placed our drink order with Dee the waitress. Being a new customer - we noticed bread served to the other guest with their drinks, we were not served bread until 30-minutes later just before our main entree.
We ordered garlic cheese bread, caesar salads, Pollo Carbonara & Speidini Gabriela. The food was excellent, absolutely no complaints with the food.
The disappointing factor was the service. Timing was slow and off the pace of our table. Salads, along with Garlic Cheese Bread were delivered within after 15 minutes of placing our order. The main entree came 15-minutes later. I was still okay at this point. Once my wife and I finished our meal, leftovers sat on the table for an extended amount of time. Finally, we were asked if we had completed our meal and wanted them boxed up? YES. Wrapping up the food to an extraordinary amount time, 10-15 minutes? By this time were growing weary of when we will actually get our bill? Bringing the bill promptly after returning our leftovers, they realized our table should be cleaned, but at this point, my wife had departed to wait for me in the car. It took longer than usual to settle the bill. Never were we asked for dessert options, and/or a menu explanation.
It's disappointing to give a 2-star review because the environment and food are spectacular. However, you can have the best food and environment but without great service, you might as well dismiss them. The entire night appeared to be timed from the bandwidth of the waitress, not necessarily her fault -maybe not enough support from other staff, but when dining I consider service to time the table of their guest.
Great food, just missing...
