I walked into Pilgrim today to get a coffee to-go, and COVID-19 protocols don’t exist. They offer the same eat-in experience as they would if we weren’t still battling a deadly pandemic. No masks even while people aren’t eating and drinking. Tables right next to each other (there were probably 20-30 people in the place). There was a customer waiting for a to-go coffee without a mask as well and had not been told that they needed to have one on to be served (I guess we really haven’t learned anything).
I frequent this coffee shop because it’s the closest local shop to where I live, and I’m extremely disappointed, and did not feel safe waiting in there for my coffee. There are other coffee shops that I go to that have limited, spaced-out seating and REQUIRES a mask to be served (most of them are in Kansas City, MO).
Unfortunately, it’s patrons that don’t seem to mind as well. As a patron who is trying to be a part of the solution (while also trying to support local business), the lack of responsibility is pretty astonishing and disheartening. I’ll be going to the coffee shops that I know aren’t actively being a part of the problem, despite the distance.
Edit: I’m seeing now that 3 different people before me have left reviews on the lack of COVID protocols. Extremely disappointing that even after hearing from customers, and responding to their concerns, there...
Read moreI really like this coffee shop! I always order the honey cinnamon latte—and I love that they use local raw honey. They use loose leaf tea as well, so no plastic tea bags! It seems like they make their own drink syrups as well. I would love to give this place 5 stars, but there are 2 areas I think they need to improve for me to frequent this business more often. Number 1 is wait times. It is hard to predict how long I’ll have to wait for my drink—sometimes it’s 5 minutes and other times it’s 30. I don’t come here when I need to be quick. The second reason is their customer service. No one ever really smiles at you?? I never really feel welcome due to staff not being very friendly, I am always the one asking how they are/how their morning is going to encourage a positive interaction. This is most likely a top-down issue—where leadership is not putting an emphasis on customer service. If I’m wrong, then there needs to be a change. I frequent other coffee shops over this one just because the staff are nicer and I have a better experience. Ultimately, I think this place has some of the best drinks in town and I would love to come more often. (They also have the best sugar cookie...
Read moreso far this has been the best location I have found in the KC Metro area that actually knows how to prepare a flat white. The location is typical of specialty coffee shops with the Scandinavian aesthetic throughout. There are plenty of seating options at the front with large windows letting in ample natural light. Towards the rear of the location you will find more seating, toilets, and a medium sized conference area with a large table. The coffee bar is in the center with a Slayer on display and an EK-43, which is usually a good sign that a location takes their coffee somewhat seriously. There are a few pastry options as well as some bottled options in the fridge to the right. The location has a classic and seasonal menu but you can always ask the barista if they know how to make something. So far, they have been very solid and have a good knowledge of classic espresso based drinks. Overall, this has become my go to spot in the KC Metro area for a proper flat white, inviting atmosphere and a knowledgable and friendly staff, in particular Jordan....
